The ‘Antichrist’ Visits Horror in Your House

Published

on

Another November week and as the weather begins to cool (here in L.A.) so have the horror releases. There are, however, several notable films being released today. Lars Von Trier’s deeply disturbing Antichrist paves the way with a Criterion Blu-ray/DVD release. Tremors finally receives the Blu-ray treatment. Kevin Bacon fans will no doubt be happy. And if you are looking for indie-horror there are several titles being released including Blood Moon Rising, which stars Ron Jeremy.
Horror In Your House
November 9th, 2010

ANTICHRIST (Criterion) (Blur-Ray/DVD) – Image Entertainment

The English language film is set in nature and based on the theory that it was Satan, not God, who created the world. In the psychological thriller that evolves into a horror film, Dafoe and Gainsbourg will play a couple who retreat to an isolated cabin in the woods following the death of their child.

MICAH SAYS: Looking over the BD user reviews; this film seems to either have a 5 skull score or a 1 skull score. Polarizing much?

BLOOD MOON RISING (Blu-ray) – Triumphant Ent. Inc.

The Devil’s daughter rises from the grave bringing with her zombies, werewolves, vampires, and the armies of Hell. Her plot is to destroy the Earth. Mankind’s only salvation is a young hippie girl and a comic book geek named Darrel Lee.

BLOOD TIES (Blu-ray) – Triumphant Ent. Inc.

A group of graduate students from Hollow’s Pointe University write a thesis paper, giving their theory on the unsolved campus murders of 20 years ago. A conspiracy is uncovered and the students are now in danger for their lives. When the students begin to dig deeper, what they find shocks everyone. The conspiracy goes far beyond what anyone had anticipated and one by one the students disappear as they try to stay one step ahead of those who must keep them silent.

THE BRAZEN BULL – Virgil Films and Entertainment

The latest creation from visionary indie director Douglas Elford-Argent, The Brazen Bull is an ice cold tale of misguided ambition and savage revenge. Set in the bowels of an iconic derelict Los Angeles high-rise, we follow Lauren and her real-estate investing fiancé as they discover first-hand what happens when a madman leads not with emotion, but rather chilling rationality. The Man in question, played by Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Donnie Brasco) brings a heaping helping of sanity and jet-black humor to the crazy table. The result is a wonderfully off-kilter horror/thriller that never goes where we expect, but rather draws the audience deeper into a surprising world that has dark corners even in the brightest rooms.

DAMNED BY DAWN (Blu-ray) – Image Entertainment

After receiving a mysterious gift from her dying grandmother, Claire takes her new boyfriend home to meet her family who live on an isolated property in the country. The family reunion begins well but Claire becomes increasingly uneasy with her grandmother’s medicated mumblings about the banshee coming for her during the night. Later that night, the family is awoken by piercing shrieks and Claire’s worst fears become a waking nightmare as the Screaming Banshee and her army of undead return to unleash blood soaked fury on them all.

DEAD ENDERS – R Squared Films

A disturbed woman, haunted by the death of her “one true love,” kidnaps and brutalizes those she believes to be his living successor. Held captive in a subterranean prison, Robert begins to fight for his survival from a sadistic captor willing to kill anyone that disturbs her suicidal plans. To save himself, Robert must survive booby-trapped mazes, implements of torture, and an evil presence which feeds his captors insanity and hides from the world, the dark secrets of “Max”.

PUPPET MASTER COLLECTION – New Video Group

Master puppeteer Andre Toulon has discovered the secret of life or is it the secret of death? The result is five killer puppets, each uniquely qualified for murder and mayhem. Together, they’re an army of skilled assassins, genetically programmed to guard the deadly secrets of the PUPPET MASTER. Now, for the first time, all nine films in the PUPPET MASTER series are available in one horrifying collection.

MICAH SAYS: I am 100% sure that these have all been released already by Full Moon Direct, but, hey, you can never have enough inanimate killer object box sets.

TREMORS (Blu-Ray) – Universal Studios

A small town gradually becomes aware of a strange creature which picks off people one by one. But what is this creature, and where is it? At the same time, a seismologist is working in the area, she detects _tremors_. The creature lives underground, and can ‘pop up’ without warning. Trapped in their town, the town-folk have no escape.
