Holy crap, calm down. The MPAA has rated James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s Insidious (review) PG-13 for “thematic material, violence, terror and frightening images, and brief strong language.” Yes, PG-13. So what? What of it? I’m seriously getting sick of genre sites condemning horror films for not pushing for an R-rating. As I’ve preached from day one, a movie shouldn’t attempt to be something it’s not. I saw Insidious at the Toronto International Film Festival, and what I witnessed was a PG-13 film. It was still awesome. It didn’t need buckets of gore to be good. If one of the Saw flicks were toned down by Lionsgate just to receive a PG-13 (so more people would see it), then we can all have a two-year-old hissy fit. But seriously, calm down. Poltergeist was rated PG. Jaws was too. A rating does NOT dictate the quality of a film. End, scene.
