‘Bereavement’ Being Pegged as Good as ‘Halloween’?
In extremely limited theaters March 4 is Stevan Mena’s Bereavement, his prequel to Malevolence starring Michael Biehn, Brett Rickaby, Martin Bristol, Kathryn Meisle, John Savage, Nolan Funk, and Alexandra Daddario.
This morning the official Facebook page was updated with the following theatrical poster and TV Spot. Those are some serious quotes featured; “It stands alongside Halloween and Psycho as one of the best ever made”? Really? Ok…I guess we’ll find out in two weeks. I’m sorry, but I don’t think anything stands alongside either of those….
“In 1989, six year old Martin Bristoll was kidnapped from his backyard swing in Minersville Pennsylvania. Graham Sutter, a psychotic recluse, kept Martin imprisoned on his derelict pig farm, forcing him to witness and participate in unspeakable horrors. Chosen at random, his victim’s screams were drowned out by the rural countryside. Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.
The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.
Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.
Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”
Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.
Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.
THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
