OMFG of the Day: ‘Exist’ Feature in Development, Teaser Poster!
Back in January we caught wind of an astounding short film that soon became infamous across the Web. Directed by the 19-year-old Aussie Tyson Johnston, Exist told the story of two men (Curtis Simmons and Alain Singaye) who accidentally stand in the middle of the world’s first encounter with extraterrestrial life.
Tyson contacted us this morning with some very exciting news: he’s currently in pre-production on a feature-length version of Exist!
With the increase in demand for alien invasion genre films (Battle: Los Angeles hits theaters March 11), there needs to be more independent visions to compete with Hollywood’s big-budget CGI-laden features. Making the short for next to nothing, it’s going to be pretty dan exciting to see what Johnston can deliver with a modest budget.
Inside you’ll find a letter from Johnston about the in-development film, along with Bloody Disgusting’s exclusive look at the teaser poster. I so cannot wait!
“Pretty much immediately after my short film was featured on Bloody-Disgusting.com, I found myself booked for two weeks straight taking meetings with agents, managers and a lot of big studios. Because of the positive attention it was getting, and the high demand from everyone to see a full feature length of the film, all these studios wanted to make it happen for me. They were all great about not sitting on this, getting a script done and just making it happen.
So I took all these meetings then I locked myself in my bedroom with my two co-writers Justin Zachary & Brendon Bradford. We all collaborated and came up with a story that we would love to make, and a story that people would love to check out. It is going to be extremely entertaining. Trust me. We’re sticking to the premise of the short, using the same actors and we’ve added a lot more depth to their characters. We’ve also added a lot of great new characters, and a lot of crazy twists to the storyline that are very original. We’re ditching the whole ‘found footage’ style and we’re shooting it cinematically (on the RED). I can’t drop names but we have some SENSATIONAL guys who will be doing our visual effects, I’ll let more information out about that later on in production. But it’s going to be pretty.
Lastly, I can’t mention the budget yet but it will be shot independently. Again, more information about this will get out closer to production. Being only 19 years old and having this opportunity to write and direct my own feature is literally a dream come true. I never expected it to come this early in my life, I’m thankful it, and I’m going to make the most of it. It all started here with my feature on B-D. I can’t thank you guys enough…
It’s going to be an insane few months. I cannot wait. Follow my Twitter for updates as we’re shooting.
