Comic-Con ’11: ‘ChromeSkull: Laid To Rest 2’ Twists, Premiere Tonight!

Horror buffs are not going to want to rest at the San Diego Comic-Con tonight, with the world premiere of ChromeSkull: Laid To Rest 2 at the Gaslamp 15. Bloody Disgusting spoke to writer/director Rob Hall this afternoon and he said he’s excited to see it with an audience. (The world premiere of ‘ChromeSkull: Laid To Rest 2’ is tonight at the Gaslamp 15 (701 5th ave, San Diego, CA) at 9.45pm. Entry is free and afterwards there’s a Q&A with Hall, producer Kevin Bocarde and stars Thomas Dekker, Owain Yeoman, Christopher Nelson, Aimee Lynn Chadwick, Angelina Armani and Brett Wagner.)

The maniac in the metal mask returns-and this time he’s not alone. After his gruesome encounter with the girl with no name, ChromeSkull has to rely on his assistant Preston, (Brian Austin Green, Desperate Housewives) to take care of business. With a growing taste for bloodlust, Preston slashes his way from one gory mess to another. Not to be outdone, ChromeSkull resurges with a massacre of his own that is nothing short of ‘jaw dropping insanity!’

See what Hall and the crew had to say about the sequel, and if we’ll be seeing a third film in the franchise…

It’s weird, usually at this point in the process I’ve seen it with an audience by now,” he said.

But this will be my first time outside of showing it to a couple of friends.

I’m not really nervous because know we made a great film and a bigger, better movie.

The people who like the first one I know will love this one

‘ChromeSkull: Laid To Rest 2’ sees the maniac in the metal mask return with an apprentice killer under his wing. Hall’s films are known for their bloody and over-the-top take on the slasher genre. The filmmaker said the sequel takes the gore-factor to another level.

I’m a tyrant on set because I have to get things right with the effects stuff,” he said.

I know I raised the bar in the first movie and made some of the best kills in movie history, so I know I have to deliver.

It’s a kill movie.

Hall owns and operates Los Angeles SFX house Almost Human, which has worked on the likes of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel. He said after “18 years of killing people” he knows how to make the perfect death scene.

I don’t have a high tolerance for slasher movies that don’t have good death scenes,” he said.

I feel people get really lazy and just pour a bucket of syrup on a tree and that’s not a cool feel to me.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t use what I do to my advantage and it shows in the ‘Laid To Rest’ movies.

‘ChromeSkull’ star Angelina Armani plays Detective Holland in the film and said there’s “so much bloodshed.

I’ve been a horror fan since I was little, but I was really overwhelmed by it,” she said.

It felt so real.

There’s so many kills and so much bloodshed.

Although Hall said there’s “nothing official“, pre-production work has begun on a third ‘Laid To Rest’ film.

We have an idea and we have a script,” he said.

But it takes it in a completely different direction now and it begins at the end of ‘Chromeskull.’

Originally it was going to be a prequel, but after the events at the end of this one, it won’t be.

Melissa Barrera and Bailee Madison Want Roles in the ‘Scary Movie’ Reboot

It was announced two weeks ago that Paramount is resurrecting the Scary Movie spoof franchise with a brand new reboot movie, which will likely arrive in theaters next year.

The new movie, a joint venture between Paramount and Miramax that will technically be the sixth installment in the franchise, is expected to go into production this coming Fall.

We don’t yet know who will be writing, directing or starring in the Scary Movie reboot, but two actors in particular have already expressed an interest in joining the franchise.

The first is Melissa Barrera, who can currently be seen in theaters in Radio Silence’s bloody horror movie Abigail. Barrera is of course also the star of Scream and Scream VI, which kind of makes her a perfect candidate to lampoon herself in a Scary Movie reboot.

“I always loved those movies,” Melissa Barrera tells the website Inverse. “When I saw it announced, I was like, ‘Oh, that would be fun.’ That would be so fun to do.”

The actress adds, “They have the iconic cast that did it, so we’ll see what goes on with that. I’m just excited to see a new one.”

In a tweet posted last night, Bailee Madison (The Strangers: Prey at Night, the upcoming “Pretty Little Liars: Summer School”) also threw her hat in the running.

Madison tweets, “Random but scary movie 6 hit me up cause I just feel like we’d have fun okay bye.” Your move, Paramount. And make sure you call Anna Faris and Regina Hall too.

Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, the first Scary Movie was released in 2000, just four years after Wes Craven reinvigorated the horror genre with his meta slasher masterpiece, Scream.

The film parodied horror movies of the time including Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Blair Witch Project, and the horror-comedy spoof scared up $278 million at the worldwide box office. The success of that first Scary Movie paved the way for an entire franchise of horror spoofs, five of them in total released between 2000 and 2013.
