The Cabin in the Woods

Who’s pushing the buttons?

While it doesn’t take much to get us horror hounds into theaters, the general audience needs to a huge push to support our genre. Lionsgate has released their first official trailer for the hotly anticipated The Cabin in the Woods, their high concept slasher arriving in theaters Friday, April 13, 2012. And while the average moviegoer may need a heft of footage to get their ass into a theater seat, all we need to hear is that it’s a slasher from Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard and Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Weadon. Footage? We don’t need it, which is why I implore you to avoid watching the spoiler-filled trailer that reveals more than a lot.

But if you insist on continuing forth, Lionsgate has undoubtably assembled an array of footage that’s sure to pique your interest and have you asking more questions than when all you knew was that this was the “slasher to end all slashers.” The official plot tease goes like this: “A group of friends at a cabin retreat scratch the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom it as time quickly runs out. If you think you know this story, think again. ‘Cabin in the Woods’ is a mind-blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out.

Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams and Brian White all star.

Check out the trailer and an exclusive still after the break. Then tell us what you think of the footage? Will you be heading to the woods on Friday the 13th?

Saw the film at an advance screening having not seen anything about it but the poster. Tis a good rollercoaster of a movie, fast with a load of fun but scary too. Glad I didn’t see that trailer tho as it does give a LOT away.
