‘Suspiria’ Remake Getting Closer?!
Natalie Portman’s prominent role in Black Swan might have scuttled plans for her to appear in director David Gordon Green’s remake of Dario Argento’s colorful Suspiria since both films offer (to varying degrees) horrific takes on the world of ballet. One also had to wonder if that film in general had hurt Suspiria‘s chances of going behind the camera.
Not so, apparently.
When asked if Black Swan had thrown a wrench in his plans, Green told Coming Soon, “No, that adds to it. That means there’s an audience for prestige in genre, and to me, that’s exciting. We’re really close to getting that movie made if I can get over a couple more budgetary hurdles I think I can pull it off. My version doesn’t really have any similarities to “Black Swan,” but it proves to the marketplace that you can take a great risk and you can have something that has great artistic ambition, but also has incredible commercial appeal.”
Now that Green has finished up his studio-comedy triptych with The Sitter I’m curious to see what he could do with this (or any other) property.
