My love for the fantastically creepy puzzle platformer Limbo is no secret. I’ve been anxiously waiting to hear about developer Playdead’s next project, like will it be Limbo 2, or something brand new? If this art is anything to go by, it looks like it’s going to be a little of both, actually. Some concept art for the studio’s next title, dubbed “Project 2,” has leaked out and it looks like a slightly more colorful if not still incredibly dreary (and I mean that in the best way imaginable) platformer. Head past the jump for more!
In the concept art that you can see above, the game share’s Limbo’s dark, atmospheric nature, side-scrolling platforming, and also follows a young boy. This time around it’s in 2.5D, has some color, and “tells the story of a boy’s struggle against evil forces trying to take over the world through questionable experiments on human bodies.” Sounds intriguing. Maybe that thing the boy is dragging in the picture is one of those “questionable experiments.”
Playdead CEO Dino Patti described the game as similar to Limbo, only “more weird in many ways.” I am all for weird.
No word yet on a release date, but there’s a chance this won’t be coming out until 2014. Yikes, that’s a long wait. Until then, you can bask in the warm knowledge that this wonderful game will be coming to the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac.
