The Red Band ‘V/H/S’ Trailer Is Finally Here! Tell Us What You Think!

VHS_V:H:S

Holy crap we’re excited. Both Tom and myself produced V/H/S (become a fan on Facebook), a new kind of horror anthology that Magnet/Magnolia will release on VOD August 31 and in limited theaters October 5. It’s our first major endeavor that sort of shocked us and caught us off guard with the amount and love and support it’s been getting. We apologize that we’ve been so cryptic over the past year, but it’s just not in our blood to celebrate ourselves. The site’s always been about the horror community as a whole, and frankly, all that matters to us is that we don’t fail you. (We just want to leave the legacy that we did things the “right way”). We’re proud of our little film and hope that it earns your gory nod of approval.

Now that we’ve finally shared the official poster, this evening Yahoo! has premiered the long-awaited trailer. Finally we have footage to share that will take you into the collective minds of Adam Wingard (You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die, Pop Skull), Simon Barrett (You’re Next, Dead Birds, Red Sands), Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Roost, The Innkeepers), David Bruckner (The Signal), Joe Swanberg (Silver Bullets), Glenn McQuaid (I Sell the Dead), along with YouTube sensations Radio Silence!

Also, here’s Magnolia’s newly released synopsis: “When a group of petty criminals is hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room, a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for the right one, they are treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last.

The trailer is quite revealing but also absolutely fantastic, IMO. What do you guys think? We’re dying to know what your thoughts are at this point…

  • Lonmonster

God I hope this is at Fantasia. Can’t wait.

    • MrDisgusting

It is at Fantasia, don’t think I’m going to make it out this year. Let me know what you think!

      • Lonmonster

Damn, I was looking forward to showing you the city. I won’t miss V/H/S!

        • MrDisgusting

I was looking forward to hanging out too. Too much travel this year, I’m exhausted.

  • WalkingDeadGuy

Looks like old school fun. I’m in.

  • theodds22

WHOOOOOOOOOOO! BD YOU ARE THE BEST!

  • gummodude13

Saw the film this past weekend at the Oak Cliff Film Fest and it didn’t disappoint in the slightest. Its one of the best found footage films I’ve seen in a long while. Will definitely be seeing it again when it comes out. Awesome trailer by the way.

    • MrDisgusting

Thank you for taking the trip to support!

      • gummodude13

I hope you guys actually release it on vhs also. That’d be sweet.

  • morgue-rot

where is the trailer?!?!?! there is no link here

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1295480624 Sam Scarcello

Chills. All I know is I want more. Will you guys be showing this at TIFF/Midnight Madness at all? I just got a mailer about tickets and am looking to plan a trip again. I’d love to see this if it’s playing.

    • MrDisgusting

Think we’re showing at Toronto After Dark actually!

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1295480624 Sam Scarcello

I’d definitely catch a double-feature of Detention and V/H/S next month! Thanks for the heads up, I’m an hour away from Toronto so this would be well worth the trip.

  • Danny-E

Looks amazing and scary as shit. Can’t wait for this and hope it takes off like Paranormal did.

  • Slasher_Lover23

wow. found footage horror that actually looks REALLY GOOD! can’t fricken wait to see this.

  • Blood-Sicles

Shit, that looks fun! I’m sure it was a blast to make, and if the film ends up being half as good as the trailer I’m sure I’ll enjoy the hell out of it. Congrats guys and looking forward to it!

  • Nugs

I saw this movie at Sundance and it’s scary as shit. It’s one of the best horror films I’ve seen in a while. The cast and director of the Amateur Night segment in particular are really worth checking out.

  • GrantTheVoiceMazzy

I love that there are so many found footage movies, and yet you have found another way to keep the genre fresh and interesting, well done sir

    • MrDisgusting

It’s not easy. We approached it in the sense of,”what do we hate about found footage.”

      • GrantTheVoiceMazzy

Haha, if you don’t mind me asking, what are some of the things that bother you about found footage.

        • MrDisgusting

The MAIN thing I hate is that found footage still attempts to trick to viewer into believing its real. At not point does VHS ask you to believe in it. It’s just a super weird and fun movie that doesn’t end with the camera hitting the ground and flickering off (or an idiotic black title card asking viewers to go to a website). The audience isnt stupid.

  • mike_4212

Great trailer, wanted more! Cannot wait to see this.

  • undertaker78

Congratulations guys. This looks absolutely f#*ked up… the way I like it! I’m not normally into found footage movies but I think you guys may have a little gem on your hands. I’ll definitely be getting the DVD when it hits shelves.

  • woodchuck

    Holy shit that looks ill!

  • http://www.facebook.com/gordon.smith.7982 Gordon Smith

    Guys, this looks AWESOME!!!!

  • pyrepunk

Looks as great as I thought it would! Excited to see it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1477012388 Rob Curtis

looks amazing & with so many great people involved how can it fail!

  • http://www.facebook.com/jaimeblack Jaime Black

Saw this @ SXSW and could not have been a bigger fan. Legitimately scary and weird and unexpected and intense. I’ve been itching to watch this again ever since March. Believe the hype – scary as shit.

  • santaclaws

I love found footage films and this looks like a very good one. So if its five different stories – does it play out kinda like Creepshow with a different story on each tape?

    • MrDisgusting

yeah kind of. The idea is that you have no idea what’s coming and it’s disorienting. The trailer kind of takes a bit of that away, but eh, it’s a badass trailer hahhahh

  • Nothing333

I didn’t love the trailer. But that being said I am super excited to see this film. I felt the trailer was just too much over and over and got a bit annoying. But I hope this film is both successful in its aim and financially.

    • MrDisgusting

it’s definitely revealing. Obviously we’d prefer if you saw it having seen nothing (hence. no Sundance trailer or poster), but without a trailer nobody would see it :(

      • Nothing333

Completely understandable. I’m too excited to finally check it out.

  • horrorkid78

Amazing, I really hope this plays at frightfest in August because I have to see this on the big screen, it looks incredible.

  • Deadamongmen

This looks FAWESOME!!! I can’t wait to see this.

  • bluegrasslass

*YAWN* so derivative and self-aware. Boring and pointless.

    • MrDisgusting

It’s INCREDIBLY self aware, actually! It’s a big “fun” fuck you to found footage. If you hate when you see send me a PM with a link to your user review. I’d love to know what you think, even of you hate it with every ounce of blood in your body

  • John Marrone

Brad/Tom – its like you studied baseball since you were kids, actually got the chance to try out for a team, made it, got an at-bat, and you hit a motherfuggin grand salami! Its not easy to get me hyped on something unless I feel gut instinct and effect, and V/H/S hits it. Congrats / cant wait to see it!

  • Lauren Taylor

To be completely honest – I woke up twice in the night 1AM and 3:30AM – and both times started to freak myself out thinking about the trailer.

    That’s huge.

    Again, can’t wait!!

  • coldblood

This looks absolutely incredible!!! Can’t wait to see it.

  • FilthyBeast666

Looks awesome. they better remember to rewind em.

  • djblack1313

no offense, Brad, but i didn’t like what i saw at all. i’m not saying this will be bad but i just really dislike found footage films (CHRONICLE was awesome). in this trailer anytime something happens the camera spazzes out of control so you can’t even see what’s happening. what i liked a lot about CHRONICLE is while it was a “found footage” movie the camera was steady enough to be able to see what’s actually happening. that being said i wish the movie success.

    • EvanDickson

In the film you see everything that happens, it doesn’t spazz out too much. Trailer is just cut so a lot of stuff gets in there.

  • sixxer

The trailer makes me want to see it even more now, even though I’ve wanted to check this out since first heard news about it during Sundance.

  • el terror

Looks like a found footage horror that actually delivers. I can’t wait.

  • thebeastieexperiment

This looks so sick! Man, I can’t wait to see this

  • flesheater24

Please for the love of god get this into theaters wider release please. Because it looks fuckin nuts, so damn creepy, intense, insane. GLad I didn’t watch it at night time LOL :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/dillon.brown.7 Dillon Brown

What’s the best way to make a film that horror fans will absolutely love? Gather a team of horror film buffs together to make the film! I think this is an incredible idea, I love this film site, so I’ve got no reservations about this film being anything but amazing. I can tell that this is a film for US, the horror fans, and not for the studios or to make a quick buck. This is simply a gift to the fans of horror from fellow fans of horror. Kudos guys!

  • http://www.facebook.com/tomn.kat Tom N Kat

WOOHOO…if the rest is as good as the trailer…WE HAVE A WINNNAHHH

  • rycam81

Looks Awesome!!! spreading the word about this one!…….. but wait WHATS THE DEAL WITH ”YOU’RE NEXT”??
ANYONE GOT ANY DETAILS ON THIS???

    • MrDisgusting

I’m hearing You’re Next could be first quarter 2013?

      • rycam81

Oh Seriously? noooooo can’t wait any longer for this, really impressed with Wingard’s style and Barrets scripts.
Can you dish out anymore info apart from that? Like maybe some stills?
        haha

  • http://www.facebook.com/cedric.gaines.5 Cedric Gaines

I’ve been coming to this site for years now, just never registered until I say this trailer. This film looks like it’s going to be amazing and I want to pay for just watching this trailer! Looks excellent and I am hyped to see this film.

  • DBZEROGRAVITY

hell yeah i’m in that was beyond awesome

  • http://www.facebook.com/tim.murr1 Tim Murr

This the first found footage film since Blair Witch came out that I’m really excited to see! This looks like a really f’d up roller coaster ride.

  • PatrickxJonathan

I’m not trying to be negative, but I’m not also one to hang off of B-D’s nuts. I think the slasher stuff looks awesome, reminds me a lot of the August Underground type stuff. However, the other aspects, ghosts, and flying objects, etc looks incredibly stupid. Hopefully V/H/S will in fact prove me wrong, but that’s my opinion and stand point for the time being. Also, when THE FUCK can I see YOU’RE NEXT.

    • MrDisgusting

Totally respect the honest feedback! It’s not going to be for everyone. Hit me up after you see it, I love hearing criticism so we can do things better second time around (if we ever get so lucky).

  • guarino2002

After half way thru I had a dropped mouth, I cant wait for this.

  • Krug09

Before i tell you what i think of this trailer, i need to say i love found footage and the Paranormal Activity movies. I can tell you, this is the best trailer for a horror movie i have seen in a while. It looks so good.

  • http://www.facebook.com/le.osuros L Osuna

Heey it’s awesome! but what about the rest of the world? I am from Mexico and I would really love to see an actual horror film (not the bunch of crap they bring here)

  • http://www.facebook.com/onalley Olivia Nalley

This looks AMAZING. I am obsessed with this trailer. I can hardly wait to see it. I just hope it lives up to the hype!

  • Cozen

Great trailer. A creepshow-esque found footage film is brilliant. I get the feeling the typical slow burn is out in this case??? I’m sure it will all tie together nicely.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chris.blatcher.3 Chris Blatcher

Man, I haven’t been this stoked about a movie in a long long time! Looks pretty damn insane to say the least. So is it doing the whole festival and big city route? I live in Tucson, AZ so no fests come around here…we do have a nice arthouse theater though. Will definitely be seeing this any way I can!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/ryancarlsexton Ryan Sexton

    that door scene… phenomenal…

  • http://www.facebook.com/Tidalwolf Grayson Negron

Best part about this trailer is: It didn’t reveal EVERYTHING GOOD. It balanced just enough without revealing all the good parts, just to psych you into seeing what this movie really is about to offer. But damn, Ryan Sexton is right! That door is wicked!

  • http://www.facebook.com/bruutalxcore Perry Papadopoulos

oh my god. I need to see this!

  • EvilHead1981

I agree, the door look awesome. This almost seems like Creepshow meets Creepypasta(the whole different creepy footage on tapes reminds me of many creepypastas). I also like the rising hand in the basement. That looks pretty awesome too!
