‘The Loved Ones’ Gets Revenge On Home Video In September!

Sean Byrne’s Aussie thriller The Loved Ones (reviewed here) was released by Paramount Insurge in limited theaters on June 1st. The release didn’t go down all that well – with a last minute switch to DCP over film along with the issuing of a cut censored for the MPAA. Thankfully, the unedited director’s cut will be available on DVD, VOD and digital download on September 11th along with special features that include Cast and Crew interviews (no word on a commentary yet).

Starring Xavier Samuel, Robin McLeavy, Jessica McNamee, Richard Wilson and Victoria Thaine, “Lola Stone asked Brent Mitchell to the prom, but Brent said no, and now he’s screwed. What happens when Lola doesn’t get what she wants? She enlists Daddy’s help to throw a prom of her own, where she is queen and Brent is king — whether he likes it or not. THE LOVED ONES is what happens when puppy love goes horribly, violently wrong. Brent should have said yes…

I’m so happy this has finally gotten its long awaited release in the US, but it deserved better than what it got. Now we just need Mandy Lane to be released stateside (although I already own the UK BluRay of that one; the BluRay on Amazon is region free!)

Seriously… No blu-ray release? I loved this film so much, and I’ve been waiting forever for an official US release, now we have one and no blu-ray. Are you kidding me? How sad. Well, maybe we’ll get lucky and Best Buy will offer it as an “Exclusive”, like they did with “The Devil Inside”. Isn’t “The Loved Ones” being released by the same company, anyway? “Insurge Pictures” or whatever it is? Fingers crossed. At least the blu-ray release of “All The Boys Love Mandy Lane” (God knows that’ll never get an official US release. That and “The Poughkeepsie Tapes”. Shelved for life!) was region free. Not “The Loved Ones”, though… Otherwise I would already own it. Lol. Either way, no blu-ray, no sale -_^
