It still feels like a fantasy. Sequel, remake, reboot, whatever the case, it’s incredibly weird to be a hardcore horror fan and know that a new The Evil Dead film exists.

Bloody received word late last night that Fede Alvarez has officially wrapped production on Evil Dead, his remake of Sam Raimi’s 1981 classic that inspired dozens of genre filmmakers.

Starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas, Bruce Campbell, “Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.” They are there to help one of their friends detox from her drug addiction and think many of the hallucinations are related.

Alvarez worked on the screenplay with both Diablo Cody and Rodo Sayagues. FilmDistrict will have in theaters by April 12, 2013. Expect some sort of “first look” soon! Until then, what are your thoughts on this reboot?

This is a tough one… because “The Evil Dead” is such an iconic and influential movie, it would be a shame if it was spoiled with a less then adequate remake. I really hope they do it justice!

I’m actually looking forward to this one – Evil Dead is my favorite movie of all time (having viewed it well over 300 times over the years).
Who knows, it might be good?
If it’s not, we still have the original – that doesn’t go away just because the remake is released.
I think we all know though, even if the remake is arguably the Greatest Movie Ever Made most people will moan that it’s shite!

I still want Bruce to come back for 2 more ED movies though.

Pretty damn excited, just hope that they do not shit on the original series by releasing a less than worthy remake stuffed to the lips with cliches and shit.
