The fun of writing for a website is news travels at the speed of light- so when someone says one thing, it can be contested within hours. So speaking of vs. we’ve got a little brawl going down with those good guys at Creature-Corner, and it’s a blast because I love those guys and respect them with all my heart. The best part is we both have our own connections and are getting different vibes from New Line regarding the next Freddy vs Jason- or whatever it may be. Although we continue to disagree with the future of the franchise, (it made $80 million in the US alone guys!) C-C did have an interesting news post, where fans can help give New Line some ideas for future films. Read on for the scoop…Creature-Corner writes:
“Well, well, well. When I wrote, having heard from New Line Cinema’s own Toby Emmerich, that there were “no plans right now” for Freddy Vs. Jason 2, and that the sequel was on hold, it caused an uproar. Some of you practically called me a liar, despite the fact that I’d already spoken to several people at New Line Cinema about Freddy Vs. Jason 2 and reported previously about the project, including the development of Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash which is now dead. Real dead. Oh, and about Robert Englund pitching a Freddy Vs. Jason sequel – he’s been doing that for years. Did I mention I’d written a book on the making of the Friday the 13th film franchise that comes out this year?
Will Freddy Vs. Jason 2 ever be made? Of course it will. Freddy Vs. Jason was a massive box office hit and the franchise is too lucrative for New Line Cinema to not continue. When the time is right.
The Corner had the chance to speak to Stokely Chaffin, vice-president of production at New Line Cinema, not to mention an executive producer on Freddy Vs. Jason and one of the few women to hold real power in Hollywood, who confirmed that there are no current plans for Freddy Vs. Jason 2. “Unfortunately, there are no current plans for a sequel,” says Chaffin. “Would love to hear from fans if this is disappointing to them. Also, would love to know what story they would want to see since the Ash match-up hasn’t worked out.”
What story would we like to see? I’d like to see Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Leatherface if it was given the Wes Craven’s New Nightmare treatment whereby reality was mixed with the fantasy world of the three horror icons. Imagine Wes Craven, Sean S. Cunningham, and Tobe Hooper being hunted by the monsters they created.
So, what story would you like to see? New Line wants to know.
