MGM has announced this afternoon that the Joss Whedon scripted high-concept horror/slasher The Cabin in the Woods has been bumped from it’s planned February 2010 date and will now arrive in theaters on January 14, 2011. Another surprise is that they’ll be turning the Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) directed project 3-D for its release. Why such a major move? There is no reason given, but it’s never a good thing for a horror movie in my eyes. The Cabin story line provides a new twist on a classic scenario — in this case the young-people-stranded-in-the-woods horror trope.
