There are good movies that are fun to watch, and then there are the bad ones that are equally as entertaining. James Nguyen’s Birdemic: Shock and Terror falls into the latter category. Before Severin was kind enough to acquire this microbudget indie, all my friends and myself would pass around a scratched DVD of the film with the orders, “You HAVE to see this.” It has the allure of the good ol’ days when we’d have that rare VHS copy of a movie that just wouldn’t ever get released. Only this time it’s 2010, and Severin is on the “inside” with all of us, and showing it by taking the film to theaters across the country. Will it catch on? Only time will tell. All that I know is that I can’t wait for this Saturday night when I celebrate my 30th birthday to Birdemic at the Silent Theater on Fairfax.
