Ever since Ruairi Robinson was nominated for an Academy Award, we’ve been watching him like a hawk. The dude was attached to Akira, and soon went on to direct the incredible short film “Blinky”. While also attached to a few other genre pics, Variety announced today that Robinson will next direct the high-concept sci-fi pic The Fallen for Lionsgate UK and Harry Brown producer Kris Thykier.
The estimated $35 million film “is about an alien spaceship that crash lands in Russia. When it creates a 400-mile electronic dead-zone, international special ops teams are sent in to neutralize it.”
Irish helmer Robinson directs and is developing the project with Thykier and Lionsgate.
The original script is penned by Andrew Will.
Fallen is looking to shoot in early 2012.
