Michael Keaton is in talks to star opposite Joel Kinnaman, Samuel L. Jackson and Gary Oldman in MGM’s remake of Robocop, reports Variety. He will reportedly be taking over for the departing Hugh Laurie as the film’s villain. I’m not sure if this remake will be any good or not – but it will be d*mn nice to have Keaton back onscreen. He’s always a pleasure to watch and was great in The Other Guys.
Elite Squad helmer Jose Padilha is directing an origin story from Josh Zetumer’s script. Kinnaman stars as the crimefighter, a Detroit police office who’s transformed into RoboCop after he’s murdered while on duty.
“In ‘RoboCop’, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilises their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before. ”
The actioner is set to start shooting in Toronto next month. Sony is distributing and has set an August 9, 2013 domestic release date.
