We’ve got the first still from Lionsgate’s newly titled Texas Chainsaw 3D. The film, in theaters January 4, 2013, is being directed by John Luessenhop from a screenplay by Adam Marcus, Debra Sullivan and Kirsten Elms. Dan Yeager, John Dugan, Bill Moseley, Alexandra Daddario, Sue Rock, Tania Raymonde, Scott Eastwood, Gunnar Hansen, Tobe Hooper, Paul Rae, Keram Malicki-Sánchez, Ritchie Montgomery, Trey Songz, Marilyn Burns, Shaun Sipos, Thom Barry and Richard Riehle star.

The seventh incarnation is a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s classic 1974 film that follows the lead character, Heather, who along with her friends, travel to Texas in order to collect an inheritance. The spin? What would you do if you found out your cousin was Leatherface, and he was now YOURS? Check out the still and the synopsis inside.

‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends. Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family – or so they thought.

Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars…

    So excited for this.

Really hoping a trailer can get me excited for this. Because the story just sounds awful.

  • Lizard_Brain

Teaser trailer can’t be far off… can’t wait

  • Jhanse3 (Jhanse29)

Love TCM franchise. Hope to see a trailer soon.

The IMDB boards said the characters in the script couldn’t get more paper thin, this plot has been done to death before, and when you cast a bunch of no-names with a no-name director, it’s another reboot/remake/re-whatever, and it’s a teeny bopper R rated gorefest, you know it’s going to suck. Don’t be fooled by the poster, this is just gonna be like the rest.

WTFASDFGHJKL:QWERTYUIOP~! I want to watch this. NOW!

  • DEADFUCK

@stevenbayers: good thing the rest were awesome too.

  • Taboo

    This better be good..

  • russellg79

Judging from the pic, Leatherface must have been hitting the weights because he appears to be in phenomenal shape. What a great ass… no homo.

  • Marty McFly

Interesting. Can’t wait to see the trailer.

  • Zombie-Killa

Eh, the poster was great, but the first image is kind of a letdown. It just feels so “meh,” and this photo really doesn’t do anything for me.

Like other horror remakes, I’m sure this one will be panned by the critics, so I’m going to try and stay away from Rotten Tomatoes before I watch this in theaters. Don’t want anything to scare me away from this one.

    • EvilHead1981

LOL, most remakes are panned by critics because, well, they are bad(most). The good remakes tend to be praised by critics and fans alike.

This pic isn’t great, but it feels like a nice tease before we get a trailer.

Also, if you’re a Halloween fan – check out a petition I started to help bring Michael Myers back properly:

    Thanks Guys.

On one hand do want but the other hand is saying “ANOTHER ONE?”. Shut up other hand!

    • Aaron Emery

Hah! At first I said the same thing “another one?” but ya know what, why not? Having that chainsaw roar in the cinema is going to put a demented smile on my face, so I’m in! I’ve thoroughly enjoy pretty much the whole series (even the remakes) although I pretend Next a generation doesn’t exist. I’m also not a huge fan of Hooper’s own TCM2, I may be alone but I find it terrible, nearly unwatchable.

      • VictorCrowley

Jim Siedow and Bill Moseley — TCM2 saving grace.

      • Milk

Loved the originals and some of the remakes were acceptable. The 3D part scares me but as I said.. Shut up other hand!

  • TPinto713

I understand most of your frustrations about the poster and this first still from the film. Yes, the TC3D poster looks awfully familiar to the 2003 poster and this still is awfully familiar looking to the 2006 movie poster but I’m not making the assonine assumption that this will be as good as “the original!” This entry will compliment the original at best but I will not lose hope because the impact of this film will guide new TCM fans to “the original” and more than likely the rest of the cheese that is this truly incredible franchise.

  • mav07

PD’s version of the remake was amazing. Everything from the trailer/poster to the dvd art, perfect! I loved their take on it but the only way to keep Leatherface going was to do what they are doing and “reboot” it. I’m excited that there is another one on the way but I doubt it will be better than the last remake.

  • Kelsy Teague

Ready for the true sequel to the original. The original cast members on board, the aftermath of the originals ending and the Sawyer family showdown will make up for any of the other cardboard for me. Those who are blowing it off at this point aren’t realizing how much truly authentic chainsaw mayhem we are in store for the first fifteen or so minutes of this movie. Gunnar, Marilyn, John and Bill are chainsaw alumni above all the rest and aren’t “remake” fodder. I just have a feeling about this one

  • ZombiesAteMyNeighbors

I need to really see a trailer first before having an opinion

  • VictorCrowley

The only bad thing I’ve read or seen about this movie is the fact that some teenie bop rapper named Trey Songz in it. Completely stupid and unnecessary.

Other than that — still stoked.

TCSM shouldn’t have been a franchise! The original was a moment in time that should have been left well alone! The sequels were terrible!!! The remake was ok, and the prequel to the remake was unnecessary! Didn’t add anything to anything! Why can’t things be left alone? The original was an underground masterpiece, like the original Evil Dead!
The plot to this reboot-sequel sounds terrible!!! Leatherface & Co living in a fancy mansion waiting for long lost relatives to butcher? Come on man!!!
Also, as someone hinted at… why isn’t Leatherface a big fat lump of lard? He hardly seems like the kind of human to go out running every night… eating a high protein diet, and training in the gym! He sits in a shitty room, stitching bits of skin together… freaking out in his bedroom with a dead animal, and getting slapped off whoever his dominant relative is! Stupidy beyond belief!
