Rob Cohen “Kicking” Paramount To Get ‘Monster Squad’ Moving

In an interview with CS, director Rob Cohen updated the status of his Monster Squad remake, which was being developed by Platinum Dunes through Paramount Pictures. Let me just say this: attempting to “light a fire” under the ass of a studio is just going to piss them off…

[The original] is one of the best things I’ve ever produced and I wanted to direct [the remake]… It’s sitting at Paramount. It’s a great script. I’ve been kicking them. Michael Bay has been kicking them. They don’t roll over… I don’t understand it. I’m hoping that one day we just get a call that they’ve finally seen the light of day.

Cohen was to direct the remake of Fred Dekker’s 1987 classic, which begins when Count Dracula adjourns to Earth, accompanied by Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolfman, the Mummy, and the Gillman. The uglies are in search of a powerful amulet that will grant them power to rule the world. The heroes – the Monster Squad are the only ones daring to stand in their way. Mark and Brian Gunn penned the latest screenplay.

    Please no.

Such a classic. They don’t make kid films like this anymore. No way they’ll do better than the original

divisionbell, much to my surprise i actually enjoyed THE VAMPIRE’S ASSISTANT as well as PERCY JACKSON & THE LIGHTNING THIEF. they are in the same vein as this movie IMO.

Lets hope one of those kicks misses the Paramount wall and hits Michael Bay in the face. I have no problem with updating Monster Squad, but not with this creative team.

This was the dumbest movie I had ever seen. Makes Goonies look like Citizen Kane. And I loved The Goonies.
