I was one of those kids that remembers watching music videos on MTV. And not just hip hop videos. I remember changing the channel on landing square on Tool‘s “Sober” or Soundgarden‘s “Black Hole Sun” (which probably helped to reinforce my love of all things horror). And like many people in my generation, I saw the shift in programming on MTV, changing from music videos to reality programs. Really, really shitty reality programs.
That’s why I got such a huge kick out of this video showing Michael Destiny, the MTV “Head Of Programming”, answering the age old question, “Why don’t you play music videos anymore?” It’s blatantly obvious that this is satire and meant for comedic purposes only, but it does raise some interesting points, not all of which I agree with. Still, it’s pretty damn funny and even manages to hit a few nerves. Check it out below.
