Twitch Film reports that filming is just weeks away on Berandal, the sequel to The Raid: Redemption that’s to be directed once again by Gareth Evans. For those of you yet to see, The Raid is one of the best action films in the past decade. I expect double the madness!

Star Iko Uwais will be back, says the site, with Macabre‘s Julie Estelle taking the role of Hammer Girl with other parts going to Merantau baddie Alex Abbad, The Forbidden Door star Marsha Timothy, and local stars Mathias Muchus and Tio Pakusadewo. And here’s one for those who are more concerned with who will be punching who than they are with who will be delivering the lines: Internationally renowned silat practitioner Cecep Arif Rahman has also signed on for a major part.

Evans is also one of the many directors of S-VHS, which premieres next month at the Sundance Film Festival.

That movie was probably the most violent-martial arts film I’ve ever seen. It was badass, but it was almost too much and over the top. After a while your almost numb to all of it. I’d definitely check out a sequel though.

While the action and violence in the film were tremendous, unfortunately that’s all the film had to offer. Hopefully a sequel offers just a little bit more……

The raid was one of the best action films I have ever seen.Besides having realistic martial art fights, the stunt work is incredible and I love the whole Carpenter-ish direction of the first half. Character were solid and while the plot was straightforward I like that they include a bit of a backstory. Awesome film. Bring on the sequel!
