The New ‘Terminator’ Film Gains ‘My Bloody Valentine’ Director

Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures have set Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier to script the next installment of The Terminator franchise, says Deadline. Lussier is the director of My Bloody Valentine and Drive Angry. Kalogridis penned Avatar, Shutter Island and Alexander.

Skydance’s David Ellison recently hired the scribes to write an original scifi adventure film, with an idea initiated by Skydance. Megan Ellison paid a fortune for the rights several years ago, and recently teamed with brother David, whose company finds big ticket action films like Terminator to be in its wheelhouse. David, who just produced Jack Reacher, had the relationship with the scribes, though interestingly Kalogridis also is tight with Terminator creator James Cameron.

Oddly enough, the four Terminator films have only grossed $520 million at the boxoffice with a worldwide take around $1.4 billion.

i like Lussier and his MBV3D but i don’t know if he has the chops to make a really good TERMINATOR movie. we’ll see i guess.

      He’s writing, not directing.

oh! thanx for the clarification Evan. :)

I hope he can bring a little crazy to the project. Nothing worse than a boring Terminator script (looking at you, Salvation).

Until I see Cameron named to this (which I know we have to wait until 2020), I will keep my hopes to a minimum.

I am with djblack. I know he is just writing, but I don’t think it is a good fit. I’m not cynical, though. Maybe this is his big chance to show what he can really do.

Welp, there goes any hope of a good, new, Terminator film. Personally, i found both the MBV remake and Drive Angry to be terrible films! I suppose all i can hope for now is that it will be better than Terminator Salvation….which shouldn’t be too hard.
