Mr. Boogie Official Returning In ‘Sinister’ Sequel

Confirming earlier reports, Blumhouse Productions is moving forward on Sinister 2, the sequel to last year’s horror pic that grossed more than $87M worldwide off of a $3M budget, Deadline reports.

Creators Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, who wrote the original, are both returning, although it’s unclear if Derrickson will direct once again.

Jason Blum will produce as will Derrickson. The duo are also working on a screen adaptation of Stephen King novella The Breathing Method.

The original Sinister starred Ethan Hawke as a true crime novelist who discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a supernatural nightmare.

interesting! i really liked the first movie! i hope this sequel will be good too. they MUST, i repeat, MUST use the same person who scored the music for each of the snuff films. that music was so fucking scary/disturbing.

    • James Wesley

Wasn’t scored.. It was music from Ulver, Boards of Canada, and a few other musicians.

Oh goody another Sinister film. I was not impressed by the first installment what so ever. Building atmosphere is one thing but god damn I have never seen a house so dark in the middle of the day. Turn on some damn lights. At first it was alright but having it that dark throughout the WHOLE film was overkill.

I really liked Sinister. But, I agree, the dark house was overkill. Besides just the daytime darkness, no one walks around their house in the middle of the night without turning any lights on. Especially when they are already spooked. Or, maybe that’s just me.

The first has a pretty good, original story but the ending was so predictable. I figured it out way before Ethan’s character. The home movies were pretty neat though.

yes! I loved Sinister and thought it was creepy as hell. Pumped for the sequel

I’m in love with Sinister. Thought it was the best horror film of 2012. I’m not sure how the sequel can be better, or be at least as good as Sinister, but I feel good knowing that the same people are behind the sequel. So it’ll be at least a good movie if nothing else. Hoping for the best, though.

Interesting. The movie had some pretty big flaws, but was pretty entertaining overall. Rarely do sequels improve on the original, but here’s hoping they can tweak the formula properly.

SINISTER was absolutely phenomenal! I just watched it again last night and I have to admit, it was one of very few films that actually scared me. Creepy as hell!

  • scarletsimple

I loved Sinister! It was the highlight of 2012 movie wise. I would pay to see the next one!

A movie that definitely deserves a sequel. Sinister was one of the few movies in a long time that was actually SCARY.
