Original ‘Godzilla’ Star Has Enough Half Life To Show Up In Remake!

Updated: New casting info added

Legendary’s now-filming Godzilla reboot, helmed by Monsters director Gareth Edwards, will include a key cast member from the original film. Legendary sent out a tweet featuring original star Akira Takarada alongside Edwards holding a cast chair with his name emblazoned upon it. In addition, Victor Rasuk (Being Flynn) has been added to the cast as well.

Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Johnson, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe and Richard T. Jones round out the cast. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce along with Mary Parent. Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont and Dave Callaham penned the script. Production is currently underway in Vancouver.

Character descriptions, along with other plot details, are under wraps for now but sources say Jones would be playing a military figure. Warner Bros. will handle distribution on May 16, 2014.

Whoa! It’s Ogata! Awesome to see someone from the original involved with this project.

First time I’ve laid eyes on Gareth Edwards. Wow, guy looks like he’s still high school. I have low expectations for the new film. But, surely it won’t be any worse than the 1998 abomination.

Great news! I’m really looking forward to this…this Godzilla drought has been killing me. Hopefully we really do get a version of Godzilla, and not another giant pussy iguana. I have no expectations, just hope.

That’s so cool! Makes me wonder if Raymond Burr were still alive would they ask him to do a cameo. Then again, Raymond Burr would be 96 if he were still alive, so maybe not :S

That is too damn awesome. To see that is just so cool.
