[TV] Watch An Intense Werewolf Transformation From Eli Roth’s “Hemlock Grove”!!

Hemlock Grove

Premiering April 19 on Netflix is Eli Roth’s Hemlock Grove – and much like the incredible “House of Cards,” Netflix will launch ALL 13 episodes on the same day!

The first official clip was released this evening and gets things going with a howl! Typically, clips are exposition heavy and shy away from any of the big surprises… not this one! Watch as one of the film’s main characters transforms into a werewolf. You can tell they were really trying to impress the horror crowd, although some of the digital work cheapens it. Still, the practical goodies are hard to ignore. I think it still deserves a slow clap? You tell us…

“Hemlock Grove is a riveting one-hour murder mystery that revolves around the residents of a former Pennsylvania steel town. When 17-year-old Brooke Bluebell is brutally murdered, any of Hemlock’s peculiar inhabitants – or killer creatures – could be suspects. Through the investigation, the town’s seamier side is exposed, revealing nothing is what it seems. Beautiful, terrifying and graphic, Hemlock Grove is unlike anything else in its genre.

From Hostel and Cabin Fever director Eli Roth, the series stars Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott, Bill Skarsgård, Landon Liboiron, Penelope Mitchell and Freya Tingley.

WOW!!!!! one of the best werewolf transformations ever. totally awesome!

    • weresmurf

Absolutely! Loved it!!! I was ready to think ‘UGH CGI!’ but when the actual transformation started? I was blown away! Especially loved how it started eating the evidence at the end lol.

  • 905Justin

Hatch transformations are awful especially CGI ones

    • djblack1313

nope. not this one. this one is excellent. 🙂

“Hatch transformations are awful especially CGI ones”

      so are blanket statements. 🙂

      • 905Justin

you care way too much…change your tampon

      • 905Justin

it’s not a blanket statement either you knob head…CGI sucks and it’s the lazy way of doing it. Show me one good hatch werewolf transfomation then.

        • djblack1313

struck a nerve there did i? LOL. but you’re insult coming from you is charming. 🙂

  • Blood-Sicles

Insane concept, but the CGI looked so crappy it ruined every shot for me. Still looking forward to the show though.

  • yellowsicktoad

The trans’ really got trashed on IGN. Don’t know why…I loved it!

(Wow, the sign in part, is really a pain! At least for me that is)

  • Nyghtfall

Meh… nowhere near as intense as Robert Picardo’s transformation in “The Howling”, and the soundtrack really complimented it. Besides, if I want to see werewolves on all fours, I’ll watch True Blood.

  • EvilHead1981

Concept is awesome, but the CG ruined it. They could’ve done the bulk of it practical too. For instance, just give the dude fuckin contact lenses. The CG wolf eyes looked straight up Judge Doom from Roger Rabbit. The tearing on his back could’ve been practical too. IMO, it’s one of those times that it could’ve looked GREAT, but the piss poor CG just kept it from it’s gold star. Like I said, the idea of it(eyeballs falling out, paws snapping out of your knuckles, teeth falling out and being replaced by sharp teeth, in Demoni fashion).

  • grossgreg

Not bad, but I expected the werewolf to look more like a man/wolf hybrid. I was a little disappointed in the result.

  • Ravinus

I’m not a big fan of CGI, but that was pretty cool. Until the end. Totally prefer a man/wolf hybrid. Using a husky is cheap and lame.

  • Frentyl

Did anyone else think they were soundtracking that with Pink Floyd’s “Empty Spaces” for about the first half?

My only real trouble with the is that the guy seemed to be trying so hard to look cool while it happened to him. He didn’t really seem like he was in pain or anything, but rather just acting like he was angry and trying ti intimidate someone bigger than him.

I won’t get into the SFX argument, but I do remember the transformation sequence in “A American Werewolf In London” and that guy really acted like he was turning into a wolf. When your body rewrites and rebuilds your entire biological structure, I imagine it’s going to be traumatic. This guy only looked like he’d been told that egg mcmuffins were no longer being served.

  • devilmaycry26

i’ll stick to watching teen wolf. there werewolves actually look like a wolf/man hybrid. sorry not into werewolves that walk on all fours. i was gonna give this a shot till the all fours wolf thing that killed it for it

    • djblack1313

devilmaycry, don’t get me wrong, i LOVE Teen Wolf and i can’t wait for season 3 to start on June 4th but let’s be real the werewolves look like Eddie Munster.

  • devilmaycry26

i meant killed it for me*

  • evilfairydust

Kind of reminds of the transformation in Trick or Treat. I LOVED that they tore their skin off in that one. This was just kind meh for me. I do have to agree with some…the CG was a little distracting. Plus, I feel like we saw the beginning and end of the transformation, but not so much the middle. I don’t feel like I really got to see the WHOLE body.

But, saying all that, it was still pretty unique compared to most werewolf transformations.

  • lucie-with-a-gun

    not impressed.
i cannot tolerate when they make a werewolf to be just a wolf.

  • thevyrsaiplague

Crappy cgi into a regular wolf, how disappointing.

  • chambertlo

Okay, so while the premise behind the transformation was sound and nicely executed, the CG was not impressive and looked somewhat “platicky”. I am still looking forward to watching the show, especially since ‘Teen Wolf’ is not coming back until the summer. I liked it, but it definitely could have been better.
I just don;t ahve that much faith in Roth, since his “horror” films have been some of the weakest I have ever seen.

  • Introverted Surd

I don’t know why but before i thought this show would be another one of those shows that are about the romance more than the horror, probably because i thought that and as such didn’t look into it and it just kept going in a loop.
Good to see that I was wrong.
