New Trailer For ‘The Purge’ Is Super Intense!! The Poster Isn’t Half Bad Either!

Writer/Director James DeMonaco’s Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes-produced The Purge (formerly Vigilandia) – came out swinging today with a new trailer, poster, some cool stills and a new synopsis! Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge, Tony Oller and Rhys Wakefield star in the film. I definitely like the intensity and the “what if The Strangers were legal” vibe!

In an America wracked by crime, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity—including murder—is legal. The police can’t be called. Hospitals suspend help. It is one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking.

Directed by James DeMonaco (writer of Assault on Precinct 13 and The Negotiator), The Purge is produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister), Platinum Dunes’ partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), as well as Sébastien Kurt Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13).

The Purge hits May 31st, 2013. Head inside for the trailer, poster and image gallery!

Out of nowhere comes a movie I now cannot wait to see!
Unemployment at 1% may be pushing it though haha

    • coldblood

Dude, I am sooo with you on that. Where the hell did this slice of awesomeness come from?

Between this, Evil Dead, and You’re Next – real horror returns to movie theaters.

  • BabyJaneHudson

Once again damn kids ruining everything. All joking aside its a cool concept – I hope we get to see more clips of society at large during the purge, otherwise it’ll just end up as another home invasion movie…

  • mjmell0w

Looks great, I’ll bet that one of the kids go psycho before it’s over.

Interesting. Sounds like a episode of star trek The Return of the Archons. But finally something new coming out.

  • doomas10

This looks awesome! Am I the only one or Rhys Wakefield looks genuinely creepy in that camera screenshot??

  • PatrickxJonathan

Out of fucking nowhere. I’m in.

  • homodrome

Like being hit head on by a truck full of awesome! Can not wait to see this one! And it is out May 31st? Love when I don’t have to wait two years to see a movie after the trailer drops!

  • Taboo

Ok I didn’t like Sinister, but I hope this turns out to be good.

  • djblack1313

YES!!! i was wondering what was happening with this movie! IT LOOKS FANTASTIC!! to be honest this looks far better to me than YOU’RE NEXT does. plus Lena Headey=FUCK YES!!

  • eagleye25

Looks good. All around quality looks about the same level as ‘Sinister’. Should make a decent Ethan Hawk-horror companion piece. ‘You’re Next’, from what I understand, balances horror and comedy like no other film. This one just seems bleak. I’ll still see it though due to the fact that I love home invasion narratives.

………That doesn’t make any sense at all. Yeah, I know it’s a movie, but still.

Anyway, I’m an Ethan Hawke fan, and I’ll always love Lena Headey for Sarah Connor, so I’ll give this a chance regardless.

  • Horror_God

    Wow, this looks great.
I’m predicting it ends with the purge hitting it’s 12 hour mark, and the last killer(s) standing threaten the family with a “See you next year,” or something. OR – Someone’s watch/clock is running fast… OR – The guy in their house isn’t as innocent as his kid thought… OR – Okay, I’ll stop.

  • Joe-Banger

Words cannot describe how I feel and what I think about that fimlm clip! WOW! Alot of thought was put into this idea!

  • Joe-Banger

I meant Film clip! Damn typos caused by a low amount of time! Im at local library.

  • DethHand

It looks pretty epic, but I don’t know how I feel about the home invasion aspect to it. But I’m definitely going to check it out.

  • HMH

I instantly thought of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson at the concept.

  • WalkingDeadGuy

Interesting premise, however, It feels like a lost opportunity making it just another “home invasion” film. With danger literally lurking on every corner, I really hope that part of the film takes place on the streets where their sweet next door neighbor can potentially become the next assailant.

  • DarrelDreadful

Oh My GOD! This looks awesome, I remember hearing about this so many years ago and then forgot all about it after I didnt hear much progress. To see this trailer is so cool, the tone is exactly what I imagined. Play their cards right, this could be a potential franchise – a different situation every film. The fact that May 31 is right around the corner is even better!

  • horrorking95

Why have I never heard of this?! I was instantly sold on the very above image of the creepy smiley masks! THIS LOOKS AMAZING! IT LOOKS LIKE YOU’RE NEXT 2! What a brilliant concept. I can’t wait for this!

  • Justen

Love the idea – so authentic and original for once! Definitely gonna check this one out.
