Poster And Synopsis For Spike Lee’s ‘Oldboy’

We had a rough image for a poster for FilmDistrict’s upcoming Oldboy remake the other day, but now a final one has been released indicating the protagonist’s 20 years spent locked up (they upped it from the original).

I’m definitely excited to see what Spike Lee has in store in this new version. “‘Oldboy’ is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

Co-starring Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley, Oldboy was directed by Spike Lee, from a script by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, The Cell, Thor). The film was produced by Roy Lee, Doug Davison and Nathan Kahane.

“From a script by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, The Cell, Thor).”

Out of three films, I have only enjoyed one (‘The Cell’). The first was an abomination, the last a disappointment. Not a great track record for any script writer. Still, at least it stars Josh Brolin and NOT Will Smith; I would have avoided that movie like the plague. The more I read about this movie, the less I am interested in seeing it.

Old Boy is a classic, who ever let spike lee mess with it must be out of their mind.

A shoddy writer teamed with a rather shoddy director, but it has a decent cast so far.

    this makes me sick.

Yeah, I agree with most of the BD posse, but like always trying to remain optimistic. At least it’s Spike Lee and Brolin and not the prior setup. Just, this is one of those that I know I’ll be mentally blinded and compare it to the original when I shouldn’t and not like, at least right away. Especially after watching Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance earlier. But I think Spike’s gonna give it a decent retelling. Maybe incredible, you never know.

Spike gets props for having the balls to even think about it. If anyone can do it, Mr. Lee is da man.
