‘Wolfenstein: The New Order’ Is Announced

Wolfenstein The New Order

Bethesda Softworks just announced the next game in the Wolfenstein franchise and it will be known as Wolfenstein: The New Order. Bethesda is going at it hard with this new Wolfenstein and The Evil Within, and I say cheers to that! The game will be coming out in the 4th quarter of this year, on the PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, AND the next gen consoles. Exciting! They haven’t revealed much more about the game thus far, but I’m thinking it may be a bit more action oriented based on the trailer you can check out past the break. What do you guys think, excited? Nay?

“We are excited to bring a new chapter of Wolfenstein to gamers everywhere ,” said Jens Matthies, creative director at MachineGames. “As fans of the series, working on this game is an honor, and our team is driven to create an unforgettable action-adventure experience that will make FPS fans proud.”

I never was a FPS guy much. So obviously for me, I’m not excited but even so…I still don’t think the trailer is anythng very special either.

Sigh, as exciting this announcement is (and as exciting as the idea of the Wolfenstein franchise in the hands of a company like Bethesda is) I just wish we could get a follow up to the absolutely most terrifying and amazing survival horror game I have played, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. That game provided the most intense experiences I have ever had while playing. It was also the first game, that while I was playing, people just walking by would stop and watch. By the end I had my entire dorm gathered around watching the terror unfold. It gave people who weren’t even playing nightmares and they all could not wait for their turn to play. Which they did, each and every one, while we all watched. It was an amazing experience, one I have not had replicated for me since. (Though Bioshock came close.)

I agree! I have this game on my PC right now. I had it years ago and got to a spot in Innsmouth that i finally gave up on. We need a new Cthulhu/Lovecraftian game though for sure!

I’m not a big FPS fan, but I lived the hell out of the last Wolfenstein I played, which was about ten years ago. I thought it did a great job of starting out like your standard WWII shooter, killing Nazis and so forth, and then gradually as you made your way deeper into the game, more freakish horrors began to appear.

So this new one is definitely something I look forward to.

      loved, not lived.

Why oh why do they have to fuck up a great possibility by putting mechs in the game? Give us an updated (with new engine) remake of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, complete with Multiplayer, and watch the money pour in. DAMN all these great developers feeling the need to mechs in their games (such as Bioshock Infinite, Dishonored, etc.). You can come up with better enemies to kill than fucking half man/half robots!

Just saying, but there’s been mechs, monsters and zombies in EVERY SINGLE Wolfenstein game dude. Every. Single. One.

Guess I’m going stupid then, but I can’t find one mech enemy listed from RTCW. And when I say mech, I mean the huge hulking machines that you see from the above trailer. Not the ones with just hydraulic legs. That is more of a soldier in my opinion.

On a related note, this game won’t even have multiplayer. So, once again, a dead sale even with Bethesda’s name behind it. And yes, I know Fallout and Skyrim doesn’t have MP either.
