[TV] “Zombieland” Series Cancelled, Amazon Passes On Pilot

Amazon Studios’ “Zombieland” pilot has ended its one month trial presentation and, sadly, the show will not continue. Not on Amazon at least, the network has passed on the series. While it’s technically possible the show could be passed on to another network, it’s probably not all that likely.

There were elements of the pilot I liked, but unfortunately the Amazon “voting” system – IMO – left the network completely off the hook in regard to its creative decisions. The pilot certainly wasn’t perfect, but most TV shows don’t find their stride until at least a few episodes in. Oh well.

The show was based on the hit Columbia Pictures movie of the same name, and found our four survivors outwitting zombies and searching for a place to call home. The Zombieland pilot came from the feature film’s original creative team, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Joe Schmo Show), and producer Gavin Polone (Gilmore Girls, Curb Your Enthusiasm). Eli Craig (Tucker and Dale vs. Evil) directed the pilot.

i really want to someone else to pick this up, and this time with a bigger budget, wich is the main problem here.

  • Aaron Emery

    Oh thank God!

In all walks of life, and in any scenario you can think of, first impressions are CRUCIAL. The Zombieland pilot was shit. It’s that simple. I actually watched it three or four more times to try and disprove a possible knee-jerk reaction on my end, but I couldn’t get into it.

I know. Every show isn’t going to be perfect right from the start, but you NEED to give the viewers a reason to come back. The Zombieland pilot didn’t do that for me, like at all.

yes!!! Now if we can kill the From Dusk Til Dawn show and Bates Motel we’ll be set! Oh and Hemlock Grove.

    • djblack1313

BloodyMickJagger, OR you could just not watch BATES or the upcoming DUSK show. i don’t like NCIS, MODERN FAMILY, etc, etc but i don’t wish them off the air. i know many people like those shows and that’s cool. i just don’t watch them. why would you wish a tv show off the air just because YOU don’t like them?

    • Jasonicus

You sound like a whiny fanboy. Bates Motel is rather good. Hemlock Grove was decent, too. Spread your wings.

      • Aaron Emery

Bate’s Motel was much better than I ever expected it to be. I’ll also throw Hannibal out there as an unexpectedly good show. It’s definitely possible to make a compelling television show from a franchise.
*Community got renewed so that’s all that matters to me at the moment!

Bates Motel is awesome! And Hemlock Grove wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either.

  • shelly84

oh well….. the pilot was pretty shitty actually….

  • eagleye25

Good. Sick of all these “shows”. Just keep making Walking Dead.

Blaming the Amazon “voting system” for this is unfair; had Amazon believed in the show, they could have picked it up just based on the attention it drew — it was far more complicated than that. And blaming the budget is also ridiculous. Not sure what people think the budget was, but it was not a cheap show by any stretch.

    • ktn

not cheap? just look at the poster, cgi and the actors they picked up, and compare with the movie.
But it’s true that some of the jokes and situations are so bad that even better actors and better everything wouldn’t help.

  • Milk

Too bad Amazon didn’t do this correctly. I guess that’s Netflix 1 Amazon 0? House of cards was pretty decent but I can’t find it in me to enjoy Hemlock Grove as much as I try.

This season has been a let down. I thought Bates and Hannibal were going to be the next big thing for me but they have missed the mark. Hannibal puts me to sleep and I wanted so much more from Bates. At least I still have GoT and unexpectantly Orphan Black has been interesting. Hopefully Under the Dome will be good but King adaptions are so hit or miss.

I wanted so badly to like Zombieland the TV series. I was excited for it when they announced it, when they cast the actors right up until I saw the first trailer. But when I tried to watch it, I only made it fifteen minutes in before giving up. The show did not feel even close to the movie. I realize you can’t compare everything, but if it’s by the same people… there should be the same heart. And at the bottom of it all, I just didn’t feel like this had the same heart as the movie.

Also, it’s complete BS that the writer is now lambasting the fans who turned on the show. He’s on twitter saying that the fans never gave the show a chance. His chance was the pilot, and it underperformed. Sorry man, that’s life.

I disagree that the voting system left Amazon “off the hook” because in actuality Alpha House has 1400 5-star reviews and Zombielnad has 2100 5-star reviews. Zombieland had more than double the amount of ratings than any other show. So either I’m missing something, or Amazon is not good at math. It appears that they lied when they said the fans would decide. They listened to the critics when they said they were going to listen to the fans. Why lead us on? It’s as if American Idol said, “Actually we disagree with your decision, so we’re going to pick our own winner.” The fans voted and Amazon did whatever the hell they wanted irregardless.

I agree with everyone who didn’t like it. No one can replace Woody Harrelson. Good riddance to an unfunny mess of a show, now please get back to making a sequel.
