VHS2_1

V/H/S/2 just hit VOD!! You can find the iTunes and Apple TV link here. Other outlets carrying it should also include Amazon, AT&T UVerse, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Google Play, Playstation 3, Sudden Link, Time Warner Cable, Verizon Fios, VUDU and Xbox Zune. Look around! There’s also a theatrical rollout set for July 12th. Trust me, if you liked V/H/S this one is bigger and better in every way!

Update: Amazon and XBox etc might take another hour or so. Sorry! Out of our control. iTunes and a few others are live, everywhere else should have it by 12AM PST.

In the film directed by Simon Barrett, Adam Wingard, Gareth Evans, Eduardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale, Jason Eisener and Timo Tjahjanto, “Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static—white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil.

“should be” on PS3 or Xbox, but it certainly isn’t. What a shame…

I stayed up just for this, and there’s nothing to watch.

      @NateMcCheezy

Hopefully they add it soon – those two might be waiting for midnight PST.

Have no control over that, sorry :(

Listed, but not available on Netflix, yet. I have it saved on my list for when it’s released.

    • NateMcCheezy

      Probably won’t get a Netflix release for a while….

      • EvanDickson

Yeah that’ll be a ways down the road.

  • SpookyBrew

It’s definitely not on Amazon either.

Just finished it off iTune. Let me start by saying I am not a huge fan of the first V/H/S, in-fact I found it over hyped and extremely boring. I can tell you now that V/H/S/2 scared the shit out of me. Huge improvement over the first. All the videos were great. Especially the last one “Slumber Party Alien Abduction”. I am genuinely afraid of falling asleep tonight in fear of seeing those figures in my dream or in my bedroom. Well done.

Ok look here’s the lowdown. I just finished my first viewing, I went back over a couple scenes to let them soak in.

It’s just okay. It doesn’t do the first one justice though. It feels very “hollywood”, while the first did so much with so little, this one tries to go over the top and it just comes off as extremely cheesy.

Some strange costume choices, no real sense of dread from the actors, and a first act that had me thinking “It has to get better… right?”

Fortunately, it does get better, the special effects are top notch and the storylines are interesting, interesting enough that you’ll watch the whole thing even if you don’t find yourself spooked.

I just wish they would’ve kept to the less-is-more approach instead of this balls to the wall action thriller that it turns out to be.

While you won’t be scared, you’ll have a damn good time.

Making a notable exception for “Safe Haven”, I am now totally convinced that this series is a practical joke being played on horror fans.

I didn’t think it could be worse than the first film. I stand corrected.

  • WalkingDeadGuy

I thought it was great. Every “tape” was enjoyable in this one, where as in the original I only liked 2 of the tapes.

  • Milk

This is definitely better than the first one. I only liked the last story in the first v/h/s.

The first story ‘clinical trials’ was the definite worst out of the bunch. I did not like it at all. The second tape ‘A ride in the park’ was alright. I loved the idea of it but the ending of it was terrrrible. The third tape ‘safe haven’ was great. I loved it. The last was alright as well. It wasn’t as good as the third but the aliens were creepy and it was fun to watch.

Overall I was impressed with the improvement. It was a ton better than the first one. It wasn’t awesome, but it was better by leaps and bounds.

  • deadsnow07

Welp, I was actually looking forward to this. Bad move. First one was better and that’s not saying much.

  • Brent Timmons

Let me start off by saying that this movie is better than I thought it would be. I was a little skeptical at first, but after the first 15 minutes in I knew I was dealing with something different than the first film. Not only does this film flash around its upgraded budget, but it does it well. If any of you didn’t like the first film, don’t let that deter you from watching this one. The gore comes in gallons, and there are plenty of scares to go around, but there is also some good ole’ zombie laughs in there too. I hope you guys enjoy this film as much as I did.

  • DavidPerry88

Watched it on Xfinity OnDemand this morning. This one really out-does the first in my book in terms of the tapes and their depictions being more intense, disturbing, depraved, and gorier than before. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, especially between the viewings and I loved every minute of it.

  • hatchetian

Safe Haven was the bomb till the whole papa thing…….

  • Mr.Mirage

To be open and honest, I am a total sucker for found footage flicks. I thought the first VHS was highly entertaining, if uneven, but that was fine by me what with multiple directors and such.

The second installment, while not holding my throat the way a couple of the segments did in the first, is more polished and definitely way more tightly packed. There is a flow, a build up and when we get where we are going, it is a grand trip indeed. The central story line about the couple finding themselves in the house with the tapes is itself a neater, tighter tale than the central story of the first.

I think I may just have to get them both… or wait it out and get the boxed set.

Here is hoping for a third installment.
