Series is based on the Bestselling Novel by Stephen King.

In the pilot, “When the residents of Chester’s Mill find themselves trapped under a massive transparent dome with no way out, they struggle to survive as resources rapidly dwindle and panic quickly escalates.

Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) directed the premiere episode. “Under the Dome,” a new 13-episode serialized drama based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, is the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers about the dome, where it came from and if and when it will go away.

this 1st ep was very meh…. it seems like it would have been a better fit like 5 or more years ago. it just seems (again, only going by the first ep) a bit tame and soap-operish. i’m not writing it off since it’s just one ep but this didn’t grab me the way BATES MOTEL, HANNIBAL or THE KILLING immediately did.

I dunno, I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to Hannibal or Bates Motel or even The Killing. Those shows only have really a core cast of characters to settle on. Half a dozen realistically. Under the Dome seemingly has around 20 – 25 maybe? To fit in an introduction to all of them in that time period, inside and outside the dome, was quite a feat. It was really more of an introductory episode rather than a development episode, that’s about it really. I personally liked it a lot, I felt the effects were rather well done, especially the crashes against the Dome and it’s really setting up what could be a great long running series. That being said, I do hope it’s going to introduce the fantastical in the long run, in further seasons (they did say they want to do more seasons beyond these 13 eps), such as aliens etc as that’d be a lot of fun :D

The first episode was and wasn’t what I expected… You can never judge a book/show by its cover though, this is only the pilot… It seems like it can get interesting though… Could be a lot more interesting if it was done with a major city…

      Agreed!

I liked it. Only flaw I saw was after the dome was constructed, their was wind inside the doom.

From the previews I got the impression that there would be more action when the dome fell. I’m hoping there’s some more coverage somehow. I haven’t read the book but from what I heard, the interpersonal dynamics is more the focus of the books. I did get the “soap opera” feel as well which is sort of the feeling I got when watching Jericho on Netflix recently. I think they could have gone a little more graphic and mature given the 10 pm time slot.
