[Saturday Morning Cartoon] Invader Zim’s “Halloween Spectacular of Spooky Doom”

This Saturday Morning we head all the way back to October 26, 2001, when Nickelodeon premiered the two-part “Invader Zim” episode S2E5 “Halloween Spectacular of Spooky Doom.”

In the special directed by Steve Ressel and penned by Rob Hummel, “Dib is doing experiments with his father’s equipment until it goes wrong. Dib manages to launch a portal into a monster world in his forehead. Dib now starts passing in and out of an alternate dimension where everything is evil. He manages to force Zim to come into the dimension with him. The monsters capture Zim and say they won’t release him if Dib doesn’t “surrender his head.” It is revealed that Dib’s head is the only portal out of the dimension, and all the evil creatures within it want to go through it. Zim saves Dib so that he can get through the portal but he then leaves Dib to the monsters. The monsters have a look through the portal but turn back as they are disgusted by the sight of GIR eating candy.

Jhonen Vasquez created the series, with Richard Steven Horvitz, Rosearik Rikki Simons, and Andy Berman offering their voice talents.

Aww yeah!! I love this show. This show reminds me of me and my best friend (my sister). She’s Gir and I’m Zim. I miss her so much since she’s living on the Pearl Harbor base cause she’s in the Navy. Hopefully I get to see her soon.

  • i love this site for special articles like this [modern art] // [indie horror spotlight] // and [ghosts of gaming past]

thinking outside the box from conventional articles goes a long way

Thanks for this. I had no idea Nicktoons still produced such twisted and bizarre toons. I will have to check out more Zim. As an aside, I can’t wait until this series inevitably addresses the Simpsons Halloween specials.
