‘Friday The 13th’ Writers Set Up Potential Secret Horror Franchise At New Line

THR is reporting that New Line Cinema has picked up “an untitled and top-secret horror pitch” from Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. You may remember them as the writers of the 2009 reboot of Friday the 13th along with 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason (although if you watch “Never Sleep Again,’ there’s at least one line in there they didn’t write).

Per THR, “No details of the pitch are being revealed, but it is described as a potential franchise starter. It is not part of the micro-budget and found-footage trend.” Chris Bender, J.C. Spink and Jake Weiner of New Line-based BenderSpink are producing.

Definitely curious about this one.

these guys are horrible “writers” IMO.

    • EvilHead1981

I agree with you there. FvJ and the Ft13 reboot were pretty bad, but the shit dialog made them atrocious. I actually don’t trust them with making ANYTHING good, even if it’s a new franchise. From their past two films, they seem to be all “Let’s just make a dumb fun movie with idiot characters and shitty dialog!”

    • SuperKilla

Wow, this is awesome to hear people say this. I always thought I was alone thinking these guys had shitty dialog in their scripts. Their ideas are not bad just the words they let come out of their characters mouths are atrocious.
Can’t say I’m pumped for this.

Well if its something original and really “a franchise” starter I think that would be pretty cool. We don’t have a lot of those (Saw, Paranormal Activity) of this generation. I hope its a slasher film. I was always pretty bummed when they didn’t turn My Bloody Valentine into a franchise but kept Saw going over at Lionsgate.

    • ThunderDragoon

I second this. I really hope it’s a slasher. We need a new franchise in that subgenre.

    • Skull-And-Crossbones

i agree about My Bloody Valentine. i would’ve love to seen more from that movie. i love both the original and the remake

    • mav07

Saw and Paranormal Activity ARE of this generation. Along with the Final Destinations and Hostels

      • DarrelDreadful

@mav07 well I know that, I was using them as examples of the ones we have. And Hostel is only a trilogy. I dont consider it a franchise. And after the last one, they should just leave those alone.

Since BD changed its layout i have to sign in every single day… i dont get it. Anyway, i was just thinking, it seems like maybe they shouldn’t hire fans of horror to make horror movies. Most of the new age stuff we have is the shits and they always say “i am a huge horror fan”… idk just a thought.

    • djblack1313

Krug09, same here. it’s a bit annoying to have to re-sign in everyday.

    • Bouncy X

interesting…..until recently i wasn’t even able to sign in. when they created the new layout, they gave us the chance to update our profiles so they’d transfer over but it never worked for me. but i tried last week and it finally worked. and now i’ve been logged in ever since. i wasn’t surprised i stayed logged in during the day but i thought turning off my pc would log me out but alas…i’m always in here.

so hopefully you guys are just having weird bugs that’ll be fixed soon.

  • mav07

If New Line were trying to re-re-boot a Friday the 13th francise, then I can’t imagine they would hire these awful writers.

  • Nightflyre9

Hacks! These two have absolutely no fucking idea how to write a good script. Everything they touch turns to shit.

  • JasonVoorhees1981

I am very excited about this! I enjoy the scripts they write. The people above must remember scripts aren’t always used word for word, so what you hear in their movies might’ve not actually been wrote by them. Either way, I loved Freddy vs. Jason, and the F13 remake. Bring on the next great franchise!

    I’m down for anything Freddy
