Thanks to Mr. Jonny Barkan, I just had my mind blown.
A new web series entitled “I liked it better when…” does a scene-by-scene comparison of both Sam Raimi’s 2013 Oz the Great and Powerful and his 1992 Army of Darkness, proving that he completely ripped of his own movie.
The similarities are beyond eyebrow raising as nearly every beat, down to the story structure, are nearly the same. The biggest difference, well, James Franco is no Bruce Campbell.
So why is Oz such a boring piece of crap, while Army of Darkness is a cinematic classic?
