Variety is reporting that Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin (who both wrote for ‘Criminal Minds’, ‘Revenge’, and ‘The Event’) will be penning the MTV Scream series. There is no official air date for the series but we’ll be keeping a close eye on things to keep you all in the loop.

Earlier this year, when director Wes Craven was asked about the status of Scream 5, he stated, “There is some talk about a television series, but I don’t think anything has moved forward on that yet. That’s what I’m hearing more than anything else from the guys at Dimension. It would be them picking up the phone and asking me if I wanted to play with them, so…

Alright Scream fans, are you into the idea of a Scream TV series? Let me know in the comments!

I’m not familiar with their work unfortunately. I wish Kevin would write the pilot then I and probably most fans wouldn’t be so skeptical of the series.

I hope Neve, Courtney and David are somehow involved. There isn’t a Scream anything without them.

    I’m still wishing for a Scream 5 though…

I agree, I think Kevin should have some sort of involvement otherwise it’s just going to another crap TV series (not that I’ve seen Criminal Minds, Revenge or The Event).

to be fair Kevin’s THE FOLLOWING was abysmal. he’s not infallible.

My dear fellows, Williamson created FUCKING DAWSON’S CREEK. Where is your god now ?

  • Sick_skwerl

I love Scream as much as the next guy and I love to have as many horror options as possible, but I get a sinking feeling just thinking about a bastardized teeny-bopper Scream drama dragged out for a season.

  • weresmurf

I’m ok with this. I remember people saying Hannibal and Psycho could never work as tv shows…

A who-dunnit could easily span a season or two. Of course, a six or seven season show? That’s different…

i admit i’m not that patient to wait more than 1 season to find out who a killer is. i loving the BBC mystery (w/ Dr. Who’s David Tennant) and season 3 of THE KILLING because they are wrapped up with 8 eps to 12 eps respectively.

there’s no way i’d wait multiple seasons to find out who’s doing the killings.

      • weresmurf

Theres the issue. It would only work in limited eps. Season 1 is the killer, season 2 the copycat. Season 3 possibly the hero has even flipped out and started killing but beyond that, just no.

        • djblack1313

          weresmurf, exactly! :)

This is the problem PRISONBREAK faced and that THE FOLLOWING now faces :)

I absolutely LOVE the Scream franchise, and even though this makes me nervous, theres definitely a chance for this to work. I honestly dont see Courtney, David, and Neve (especially) returning but I bet if the writing is on point then they may consider. I can see Hayden (Kirby) being involved though, and thats what Im holding onto until I see what happens. I was really looking forward to that second trilogy but this will have to do for now, maybe Scream 5 will still come later.

I think David will appear at some point in the series. It might not be Dewey character but his career is so dead that he’ll jump at any chance to be on screen.

  • CaptainHowdee

Oh, shit! I didn’t think they were actually going through with making this show! I recall hearing awhile back that it would probably air on MTV, and that’s my only major concern–I mean, why wouldn’t it air on a channel like FX, AMC, or Syfy? Either way, it’ll be interesting to see Scream make it to the airwaves.

    • itsnickkarcher

Yeah, I think it’d be a lot better on A&E, something like Bates Motel.

  • djblack1313

if these writers wrote the first half of season 1 of REVENGE then this could be awesome! if they wrote the 2nd half of season one up to the current eps of that show we’re fucked. REVENGE was a great show in season 1 but it’s so convoluted and bad now.

I think this has become an epidemic with a lot of recent television series. There are so many that have an amazing start and may have been better suited as movies because they hit a point where the writers just don’t seem to know what to do next. Lost and Prison Break immediately jump to mind when I think of this.

Curious for this. But I think the Scream franchise after the series will get the Alien and Freddy treatment – will go into parody. Scream 4 was fantastic in my book but a tv series will stretch its creative horizons to the max. Will be a ghostface killer in each episode? Will be one/two killers in each season? Very curious about their approach though, I must admit
