[TV] NBC Announces Televersions of “Rosemary’s Baby” and “Tommyknockers”

Part of the Television Critics Association’s Summer 2013 Press Tour, NBC announced that they are in early development on a handful of new projects, including an updated retelling of “Rosemary’s Baby” along with “Stephen King’s Tommyknockers.”

“Rosemary’s Baby” is a four-hour updated retelling of the bestselling novel by Ira Levin that was later adapted as a feature film about devil worship and the complex relationship between a young husband and wife. In the new version the couple lives in Paris, where this edge-of-your-seat thriller unfolds. Lionsgate is the production company. Scott Abbott (“Introducing Dorothy Dandridge,” “Winchell”) will serve as writer on “Rosemary’s Baby.” Executive producers are Joshua Maurer, David Stern, Perri Kipperman, and Alix Witlin.

“Stephen King’s Tommyknockers” is based on the renowned author’s chilling 1987 novel about how the residents of a small Maine town deal with what they believe is an alien spacecraft that has landed nearby. Executive producers are Frank Konigsberg and Larry Sanitsky. Emmy Award winner Yves Simoneau (“Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee”) is attached to direct.

Not interested in seeing a Rosemary’s Baby remake (has anyone else tried to sit through the mess that was “Whatever Happened to Rosemary’s Baby”?).
I will say I think that there is potential to do something much better with Tommyknockers – at least the effects could be done better with a bit of cash.

File under: who gives a fuck. Even though Polanski is an overrated pedophile shit bag, that first one is a classic.

Why don’t they just remake Rosemary’s Baby for the big screen? Surely it would be better than some 4 hour made-for-TV movie.

This is some truly shitty news, Rosemary’s baby is one of my favorite movies. The idea that it’ll be getting the “carrie tv-movie” treatment makes me sick to my stomach.

Rosemarys Baby is my favorite movie of all time. No new version can beat the original. But of course i’ll check this 4-hour long version, and hope its good…
