Surprise! There’s Another ‘Mortal Kombat’ In The Works

MKScreen

The last Mortal Kombat managed to reinvigorate the franchise by returning it to its roots, and that decision to bring back buckets of blood and assorted viscera made the game a huge success. I’m not a fan of fighting games — mostly because I’m dreadful at them — but that didn’t keep me from sinking an inordinate amount of time in it.

With the success of the game, the Legacy web series and the upcoming film, the Mortal Kombat franchise is bigger than ever. It should probably come as no surprise that there’s another game in the works. Details after the break.

In an interview with GamerHub.tv at Comic-Con earlier this month, Mortal Kombat Legacy producer Lance Sloane hinted that there’s another game that’s currently in development. Nothing’s been confirmed, but Sloan said the game is planned to release alongside the next film, which was recently green-lit.

“We’ve been in greenlight committee for a while at the studio and we’ve got a great script,” Sloane told GamerHub.tv. “We’ve got a great director with Kevin Tancharoen, who is on board.”

“It’s just figuring out the business side of it and when we would do it and when we would launch it and how do we sync up with the launch of the game that they’re working on now. It’s not 100 percent yet, but we’re getting closer every day.”

The last MK was phenomenal. Pure fan service- from bringing and re-imagining the classic arenas to buckets of blood, lots of moves, fatalities and a proper story line! Gameplay wise simple and effective!

As for the film, up for it as long as they follow the ridiculous storyline of the game. Do not try to make it realistic and all the other garbage. Mortal Kombat has outworld, energy projections and all types of crazy stuff! I want Shang Tsung to consume souls, not being a Yakuza member with black suit. Just sayin! Oh and bring the awesome theme song too. Never gets old.

I agree. That realistic Legacy crap was awful. I will be very upset if they put that in the film.

Agreed, guys. Making it realistic would be a huge mistake. I have faith in them that they’ll do it right. Yes, the theme song! They just have to bring it back. One of the best things about the Mortal Kombat movie was the soundtrack. I’m hoping they go with that style of music again.

The last MK games was good indeed. Hopefully this time we’ll see some more horror villains.

I’m not a fan of the Legacy series at all, but maybe a new film will do justice. That is if it’s rated R and set in the MK world as we know it.

Yes. This film NEEDS to be rated R, otherwise I have zero interest in it.

It is. The R-rating and it’s director are the only things that are concrete at the moment. They’ve made it clear they are steering away from PG-13 fare–unlike Robocop.

AWESOME news! My favorite fighting franchise. Also, I’m glad that the new movie FINALLY got greenlit. It was torture to see them doing things with this web series while the movie was still in limbo. But yeah, I agree, it just has to be rated R this time around. There’s no excuse.

After Annihilation I could understand the studio’s potential hesitation! It destroyed almost the cult status of the first one! Curious for the storyline. I want my island, my tournament – earth being represented by our good heroes and outworld represented mainly by our villains!
