Sometimes decisions made to maximize mass appeal make no sense. Take this morning’s news that Harvey Weinstein wants to cut 20 minutes from Snowpiercer, for instance. That’s a terrible decision. However, the decision to change the new The Renny Harlin-directed alien-thriller The Dyatlov Pass Incident to The Devil’s Pass is probably a wise one if they want U.S. audiences to be somewhat aware of the thing. And awareness is a reasonable goal now that IFC MIdnight is suddenly releasing it on August 23rd.
The film “follows a group of students on a trek to investigate the true life mystery of nine Russian skiers who befell an unexplained death while skiing in the Russian mountains in 1959. To this day, their deaths have been one of the most bizarre unsolved mysteries of the 20th century.”
The film, starring Richard Reid, Matt Stokoe and Holly Goss, is based on a true story. You can check out a new trailer here.
