[Remember This?] When Chucky Finally Comes Alive In ‘Child’s Play’!

Childs_Play_Banner_8_7_13

Last night I found myself watching Child’s Play on HBO Go, and the person I was watching it with had never seen the film before. There’s a certain inherent awkwardness when you’re introducing a person to a film you’ve already seen, especially if its been years since you watched the thing (the case last night).

Luckily, Child’s Play more or less holds up (though it’s a lot funnier than I remember) but it’s easy to forget how differently the movie plays to a new initiate before and after Chucky finally goes off his “Good Guy” script and starts talking like Charles Lee Ray. After all, us horror fans have likely seen the four existing sequels and are well aware of Chucky’s penchant for foul-mouthed hijinks.

So as the movie sped along (and Child’s Play moves fast, it’s much better paced than I remembered) I found myself giddily awaiting this one moment. The “make or break” scene that would dictate if my viewing partner could accept the rest of the film.

And, of course, they dug it. Why? Because it’s f*cking awesome!

Exactly how far up your ass did you have to pull that shit? Would be cool if BD got back to news rather than being your blog. A blog of thoughts you should keep to yourself, no less.

Exactly how far up your ass is that stick? as far as I know this site still deals with news, so what if they throw in a few personal posts here and there? as long as it’s Horror or Sci-fi related (which this site is all about, unless I’m mistaken) it’s not hurting anyone, if your tiered of these types of post then walk on home, I’m sure with the amount of fan’s and members this site has you wont be missed :)

@wehoaks that sentence probably took about 12 seconds to write. Thanks!

Also, there’s plenty of news. We like to write about fun stuff as well. Have a great night!

      • lovezoid

@EvanDickson – I thought it was a perfectly appropriate and functional sentence. I can easily relate to that feeling. So it added an extra dimension to the article topic, which is about revisiting an old favourite and saying ‘Is it still good?’, of having a ‘control’ of sorts – not only ‘Is it still good?’ but ‘If it’s still good, is that just because MY tastes have remained the same? Or does it stand up to fresh eyes?’

I’m sure you didn’t need me to anatomise it but comments like that piss me off. If dude thinks a contextual introduction on a specialised horror website is self-indulgent and worth complaining over, I can only assume he has a sniper rifle trained on the Kardashian mansion as we speak.

        • ZedtheUndead

@Lovezoid-the last line of you comment made me laugh, and cringe ’cause you’re probably right…and it’s sad to see guys like wehoaks poisoning an awesome site like this, managed buy guys who obviously work hard to keep us up to date on the happenings of Horror.

          • wehoaks

Awww I poison it. It’s cute that if you express a different opinion you’re a snake. It’s particularly cute from other horror fans who have been known to crap themselves over a .05 second shot from a trailer not making it into the final cut of a film.

“okay friend. Now I have something awkward to ask you to do with me.”
    “its okay evan ask me”
“Okay are you sure? This could be weird for both of us”
“Evan, you’re my friend. You can ask me anything”
“It’s really twisted dude. I dont want any weirdness between us”
“Evan. Please. Just ask. I am here for you”
“Okay. Will you watch a movie with me? Childs play”
    “WHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? How. Dare. You.”

more like 1 sided awkwardness. I’ve been hyping this movie, now were watching it. I know when the good parts are coming so I’m trying to gauge their impressions, but not give anything away by looking over. their asking questions, like wait is this going to happen, and now I have to saw some dumb shit like wait and see or maybe. Even though we both know I know the answer. Finally either they also love the movie and were pumped and talking about how good it was, or they think its dumb. Now i’m wondering is this movie as good as I thought? what part of the movie was the turning point for them. Am I the crazy one for loving this film or are they crazy for not.
yeah it can be kind of awkward.

  • goodguy88

this is the best part of the movie

I would LOVE to introduce somebody to Child’s Play. I can’t believe there was still a person who hadn’t seen it! This scene scared me shitless when I was a kid. Loved this, Evan. Pay no attention to haters. :)

    • BabyJaneHudson

Rewatched this last night for the hell of it and my husband (who hates horror movies) actually sat down and watched it with me. He never complained once and actually said it was fun. Gasp! Think I’m going to have to con him in to some more classic 80′s horror!

  • WalkingDeadGuy

What’s up with the trolls spewing so much hate above. Keep doing what you’re doing B-D, don’t change a thing…Oh and this scene is a classic! Love the Chuckster :-)

    • wehoaks

Troll. Awww you’re cute too. I forgot my sheep costume at home before I expressed my differing opinion. Sorry.

      • ZedtheUndead

now to be fair, it’s not the differing opinion that ticks people off, it’s when it’s delivered with a jerk ass douche bag attitude for example if you were to say oh I don’t know, “It would be nice if you guys did just news instead of these types of posts” it would most likely been more excepted, INSTEAD you said, and I quote “Exactly how far up your ass did you have to pull that shit? Would be cool if BD got back to news rather than being your blog. A blog of thoughts you should keep to yourself, no less.” which, obviously was not taken very well by the other BD members, so before you start to get huffy because you think people don’t like your difference in opinion, ask your self, “could I have said it in a less asshole manner?”

          Well said sir.

          • ZedtheUndead

Thank you Ms. Hudson, and thank you for not pointing out I posted it twice, lol

  • harrynico4

One of my favorite parts of watching horror movies with friends who’ve never seen them before is seeing how they react in parts that I know are coming.I don’t know why, it’s just so interesting and fun to introduce films to new people.
