[Saturday Morning Cartoon] Walt Disney’s 1949 “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”

My life has been in complete chaos the past few weeks, so I’ve regretfully missed out on a few Saturday Morning Cartoon features. That ends today as we’ve taking inspiration from a new television series.

With Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” being reborn for the small screen, we’re sharing with you Disney’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” short film from way back in 1949. It was included in the feature The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.

In a small town, a brewing romantic rivalry with a local tough and a school-teacher culminates in a terrifying ride in the night.

The 30-minute short was directed by Clyde Geronimi and Jack Kinney, and featured voice work of the legendary Bing Crosby, Pinto Colvig, and The Rhythmaires.

Love this short. I used to watch it over and over again as a child.

Same here. This was an awesome short. Used to love that the montages that came after Disney films ended with the pumpkin being thrown.

  • to me this is better than the burton film. spooky and creepy, not traumatizingly scary so it’s perfect for kids. i wish more cartoons could be like this so kids can have a healthy serving of horror growing up

I absolutely loved this as a kid (and it terrified me too). I can’t wait to show this to my son when he is a bit older.
