Uni’s Halloween Horror Nights Will Have ‘Curse of Chucky’ and ‘The Purge’ Scare Zones

It was announced this morning to eagle-eyed fanatics – like myself – that at Universal Studios Hollywood’s premier Halloween Horror Nights event, beginning September 20, 2013, will also include scare zones for both Universal films, Curse of Chucky and The Purge. Details are forthcoming below, but I have my fingers crossed that this year they actually change up the Child’s Play maze into something really special.

They say that, inspired by the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of Curse of Chucky, the eponymous scare-zone will bring the terrifying pint-size doll, possessed by the spirit of a notorious serial killer, to life. Having made special appearances at past “Halloween Horror Nights,” this is the first time the sinister doll has commanded his own scare-zone to shock and terrify guests for his amusement.

The box-office blockbuster, The Purge, will come to life as “The Purge: Survive the Night.” As guests enter the theme park, they will be thrust into the depraved world of The Purge, a sordid tale in which all crime is declared legal and no one is safe for one single night; a story, in which all criminal activity, including murder, is legal for 12 hours. Ironically, the gates to “Halloween Horror Nights” swing open at 7:00 p.m. sharp; the same time havoc is reaped upon the citizens in The Purge. “The Purge: Survive the Night” scare zone will push guests to the limits as they become engaged in the film’s most memorable scenes while trying to run for their lives.

This year’s haunted attractions will also include: “The Walking Dead: No Safe Haven,” based on AMC’s Golden Globe-nominated, Emmy Award-winning TV show, “Evil Dead: Book of the Dead,” inspired by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s chilling remake of the cult classic, and “Black Sabbath 13 3D,” inspired by the darkest lyrics from the multi-platinum rock band’s 43-year history of Heavy Metal music. “Insidious: Into The Further” was also recently announced alongside a “The Cabin in the Woods” scare zone.

“Halloween Horror Nights” 2013 at Universal Studios Hollywood brings together the sickest minds in horror to immerse guests in the living, breathing, three-dimensional world of the most notorious and terrifying creatures and features a slate of unrivaled film production quality mazes, terror-filled Scare Zones and a fully re-imagined “Terror Tram” experience, uniquely themed to today’s most definitive horror properties.

Here’s an interesting one for you today. “Post Malone, Michael Bay and Brad Fuller’s Platinum Dunes, and Vault Comics have partnered to create an all-new IP universe based on an original story by the 8x diamond recording artist,” Bloody Disgusting has learned this afternoon.

What exactly does this mean? Well, the plan is for Vault Comics to launch this original genre story as a graphic novel in 2025, with Platinum Dunes developing the film adaptation.

The comic book/movie doesn’t yet have a title, but here’s what we know so far…

The official press release details today, “Blending elements of road thrillers like Mad Max: Fury Road, and demonic horror like Evil Dead, the story is set in medieval Europe, where the only thing standing in the way of the horde of demons infesting the continent is a mysterious armored 18-wheeler seemingly sent back from the heavens.”

“I’m so pumped to share this badass story with the world, and I couldn’t ask for better partners than Michael Bay and Vault to help bring this story to life,” Post Malone said in a statement.

“This is the kind of project you dream about,” said Vault CEO Damian Wassel. “We get to work with an exceptional artist at the top of his game to build a completely original story from the ground up. We have an iconic director helping to guide the creative development. We’re going to bring the world a mind-blowing graphic novel, and that’s just the beginning.”

“I love working with talented people, and Post Malone is incredibly gifted,” says Bay. “I am excited to work with him on such an intriguing idea, and when you add Vault to the mix, it raises the bar to another level. This new IP is just what the graphic world needs right now.”
