5 Things We Learned From The ‘RoboCop’ Trailer!!

Robocop_5_9_6_13

In case you didn’t notice, the trailer for the RoboCop reboot hit yesterday. While the jury is still out on the film itself, the trailer contains none of the satire or edge that compels me to love Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 original so dearly. But what did it tell us? What’s different?

In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilises their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

RoboCop hits on February 7th, 2014. Head below for 5 Things We Learned From The RoboCop Trailer!!

1: He Knows Who He Is

That’s a pretty huge difference. Instead of slowly discovering his past, it seems like Murphy just kind of wakes up in a robot suit. His wife knows, his kid knows (they have “a talk” it looks like). Sure, he’s still fighting for control of his soul, but it looks like he has a huge leg up here.

2: His “Death” Is Less Interesting

Maybe they figured they could never top the brutality of being tormented by Kurtwood Smith and didn’t even try? Hopefully there’s more to it than this.

3: RoboCat!

We already knew he was going to have a black suit, we knew ED-209 was gonna be in it, we knew it was gonna be PG-13. But we didn’t know how agile RoboCop was going to be!

4: Jay Baruchel Is In This!

I literally had no idea. I love Baruchel so I’m definitely hoping this one frame I could grab from the trailer isn’t his only appearance. Remember when Kal Penn was in Superman Returns for no reason? I hope that’s not the case here.

5: I’ll See It Because…

… I can’t say no to more Michael Keaton. Although I’d like to pretend this is his captain character from The Other Guys and that acting in RoboCop is his third job after working at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Nice to see some love for “The Other Guys”. I hope Dirty Mike turns up and invites RoboCop to a hobo orgy.

  • JasonVoorhees1981

Looks shitty. I’d rather watch The Notebook.

    • dr.lamb

      THAT’S true horror !

  • Meshugganaut

Hello kids. I’m Robocockup. And YES, you can buy my action figure soon. Make sure to tell your parents.

  • tykittaa

My main problem is that this character isn’t RoboCop. It’s Iron Man. From what I can tell, Murphy didn’t die, he knows who he is, the mask is retractable, and the suit is designed around being “sleek and tactical.”

  • ThrashKid

I actually like the first suit in the trailer. Its when Keaton says “Make it black.” That really kills it for me. That aside, what really kills this film for me already is that damn PG-13 rating. Instead of seeing ultra violence we get Robocop fighting off a squad of cyborg soldiers…completely lame.

  • Lion7718

I might watch it when it hits TV.

  • oneofthosedeadfckers

I love the original to death. The trailer wasn’t that good which in my experience usually means the movie isn’t that good. Robocop fighting robots is super fucking lame. Why even use the Robocop name if it’s not going to retain any of the awesomeness of the original?

  • Canucklehead

The cast looks great but too much bad CGI…think I’d rather watch the original on blu ray

  • godless

It always makes me sad when Hollywood fucks up a great movie from my childhood. I’ll also be checking it out when it comes on tv if I can bear it.
I thought I saw Samuel L. Jackson in one of the still on the other posts which is cool, but the trailer completely disappoints me…

  • ChiNyC

dude playing Robo looks goofy and retarded. This is going to suck so much ass

  • undertaker78

This does look like a turd but there’s no reason to whine about it. The easy thing to do is to not see it and focus on something that interests you.
