[TIFF '13] Footage of Daniel Radcliffe In Alex Aja’s ‘Horns’

horns

High Tension director Alex Aja returned to horror greatness with Horns, which just world premiered at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival. Bloody Disgusting’s Mike Pereira was a huge fan – read his review here – calling it “an audacious, wonderfully twisted romantic horror fantasy.”

Collider scored the first ever clip as an exclusive, and it features Daniel Radcliffe as a young man who awakens to strange horns sprouting from his temples. The footage actually tells us nothing new about the movie, and isn’t all that interesting – honestly, I don’t even understand why they released it. Still, it’s fun to see Radcliffe rockin’ those sweet horns.

Max Minghella, Juno Temple, Joe Anderson, Kelli Garner and James Remar also star in the film still seeking U.S. distribution.

Caught this at TIFF! Love the book and pretty much everything else Joe Hill has written.

The movie has a great and mostly book accurate start until but than eventually falls off the rails and loses what it had going for it.
It lacks a lot of character development for most characters especially the killer which is very important.
Mostly it felt uneven, disjointed, unpolished and unfinished.
I have a lot of contacts who worked on the film in post and word is it went through quite the production problems, including swapping editors a few times and it definitely shows.
As well as some extremely laughable and unnecessary CG work it’s safe to say the film needs to be delayed about a year, maybe even get a couple re-shoots in. I’d say the confrontation scenes with the killer need the most reworking as they just feel sloppy and bland.

But Daniel does a tip top job portraying Ig and Juno Temple as Merrin; David Morse is pretty great in it too aswell as James Remar and lots of the other actors, though Max Minghella didn’t get enough material to work with imo.

Well it’s safe to say it’s a decent flick, but it can and should be better and it could be, with the right amount of time. It just needs some tender love and care.

If there is one thing Aja has never done well it’s CG fx. His practical fx have always been incredibly but the CG in his movies has always been dreadful unfortunately. Still curious about this one. Been waiting for Aja to make a comeback after mirrors and Pirhanna.
