James Wan’s Insidious: Chapter 2 hits theaters this Friday, September 13th. In the newest installment, “The haunted Lambert family seeks to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.”
I recently spoke to the film’s cast, and one of the first questions I wanted to address was something you guys have been asking since it was announced that Lin Shaye (Critters, Big Ass Spider) would be reprising her role as Elise, “how are they going to make that work?!”I spoke with Shaye about the reprisal – and you can find the exchange in non-spoilery terms below.
Given how the first film ended, were you surprised when James asked you back?
“When we were doing the first one he actually called me and said, ‘I thought I knew how I wanted this to end, but now I’m not so sure because if we do a sequel what do I do?’ But then we took a pause and realized that it doesn’t matter because The Further has its own rules. Then he went, ‘okay I’ll do what I wanted,’ which was to have the ending with Patrick in the first one.
He wasn’t sure how it was going to work out or what avenues it was going to take, and I still haven’t seen the second one so I don’t know exactly how my performance fits into the whole thing.
Anything can happen in The Further.”
