UPDATE: The full line up has been revealed as Gavin Harrison, Bill Rieflin, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Mel Collins, Jakko Jakszyk and Robert Fripp.
The progressive rock world is about to explode as it has been confirmed by original King Crimson guitarist/member Robert Fripp that the band is back! In a blog post on his website, Fripp writes that “…King Crimson VIII moved to its next stage of actualization,” and that the eighth incarnation of the group will not one, not two, but three drummers! Fripp then explains that the reformation brings together a very different group of people than ever before: “…seven players, four English and three American“.
Porcupine Tree drummer Gavin Harrison joined the group in 2008 as the group’s second drummer opposite Pat Mastelotto and performed on several tour dates. There is no word if he is still officially in the band or not.
Fripp stunned the music world when he announced his retirement from the music industry in late 2012 due to strong issues with the business end of the music industry. But none of that matters now as Fripp writes in one sentence a message that has me beyond excited: “The Seven-Headed Beast of Crim is in Go! mode.”
Welcome back, sir.
