Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark – who penned Almanac, the Michael Bay–produced found footage sci-fi thriller – will write Paranormal Activity 5, the latest installment of Paramount Pictures’ scary movie franchise, which has so far made more than $718 million worldwide, THR reports.

A Latin-themed spinoff titled Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is due to be released January 3, 2014.

Paranormal Activity 5 is set for an October 24, 2014 release.

No plot details have emerged but as the process for these movies go, Pagan and Stark will write scriptments that will serve as the basis for the found-footage movie.

Jason Blum and Oren Peli are producing.

I hope they take a long hard look at what did not work in Paranormal Activity 4. I would normally write off a series that’s getting this far into their franchise, but the third installment was still really good.

Think hard guys, it’s almost a year since PA4 and I’m still inclined to wait on number 5. Give it a really good story this time!

I’m hoping PA5 is more like the first two and less like the last two. Maybe they’ve learned from their mistakes. We’ll see.

I hope that PA5 is good, but I also hope its the last one. Its no secret that the first was suppose to be the only, and its only so much they could do with the story at this point, plus Katie is only going to get even more boring if they don’t give her anything new to do. I didn’t bother with PA4 because it looked atrocious, however I did see the ending online and was it me or was it the exact same as the third? I do honestly hope these next two movies are major improvements.

I’m just hoping they change the predictable story pattern:

-40-50 minutes of boring security camera footage (I don’t need to know what’s going on in your empty pool or kitchen at 3:00 am)

-Random attacks from Toby, the invisible demon

-And a so-called suspenseful finale that might last ten or fifteen minutes, ending with some ambiguous cliffhanger.

It’s route formula that’s become tiresome, stale, and predictable. A change is necessary.

I’m not a fan of the PA franchise, but I can say I really enjoyed PA 3. PA 4 on the other hand, was complete shit.
