[Random Cool] Every Reference From Guillermo del Toro’s Epic “The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XXIV” Opening!

The biggest buzz last week was Guillermo del Toro’s nearly 3-minute long “The Simpsons” couch gag for their annual “Treehouse of Horror XXIV” halloween special. The opening of last night’s episode was plastered with genre references that ranges from the Universal Monsters to giving nods to all of del Toro’s horror features (like Blade 2, Hellboy, Cronos and Pan’s Labyrinth). In fact, there were so many “winks” that multiple viewings were necessary to catch ’em all – and even after watching multiple times, can anyone be sure they caught everything?

MoviePilot took the time to annotate the entire opening, a daunting task, in hopes of sharing each and every movie reference for fans. You can watch the epic video below. Did they miss anything?

You can read all about the opening in our previous story from last week.

Call me crazy but I seriously thought the Freaks reference (3:06) was an American Horror Story: Asylum reference (Pepper).

  • ……………That’s unreal. I picked out a FEW references, but that’s about it. As you said, it’s almost impossible to catch all of them at once.

An amazing opener, and I LOVED last night’s episode. Yeah, the final short about the circus with Mr. Burns, Homer as a strong man, and Moe was kind of weak, but the brilliance of the opening with the Dr. Seuss spoofs made everything worth it. Treehouse Of Horror is the only reason why I pay any attention to The Simpsons now a days, and last night’s episode didn’t disappoint (for the most part).

Pretty sure that the scene with Maggie running Milhouse off the road in the car is a Pet Cemetary Two reference. Same scene happened in it if not.

Yeah this video is being promoted as all/every reference but it actually missed out a fair few. I know on io9 they were making a proper list of them all and debating the ones that could be taken from several sources.

This is the best Simpsons intro I have seen, period. A great celebration of del Toro’s work, horror in general and Simpsons history. Well done GDT.

For the record, I believe the opening zombie stuff is from World War Z, not Night of the Living Dead.

  • much appreciation for this video posting

Poltergeist TV at the end. How do you miss that?
