Frictional Games Officially Reveals ‘SOMA’ With Gameplay Debut!

SOMA

After a couple unusual and unnerving live-action teaser videos, Frictional Games has officially unveiled their next-gen horror game, called SOMA, with a look at some actual gameplay footage. It won’t release until 2015 — ouch — but it will coming to PC and the PlayStation 4, so Sony just got itself another console horror exclusive (alongside Outlast and Daylight).

Enjoy some gameplay footage from SOMA after the jump, but be warned, I think I’d describe it as a big bag of sci-fi flavored what the fuck did I just watch?

Have a question? Feel free to ever-so-gently toss Adam an email, or follow him on Twitter and Bloody Disgusting.

Looks absolutely terrifying and amazingly detailed, maybe Frictional Games have new, better engine? One thing that i don’t like is…release date: 2015??? It’s too far away…

It’s definitely using a new engine. I’m a little surprised it’s so far away, but at least that means Frictional is taking their time with it, getting it right rather than rushing it out.

      • Pav

I agree, but Frictional Games said that SOMA is three years in the making so it’s already very long time, dont you think?

      • Adam Dodd

It’s definitely longer than I would like, but they admitted they rushed Amnesia: The Dark Descent, so I’m sure they don’t want to do that twice. The longer this is in development, the more feature-complete and polished it can be. We have PLENTY to look forward to next year (Daylight, Dying Light, The Evil Within, Dead Rising 3, etc.) so I’m okay with this being a little farther off.

I have no choice than patiently wait for this masterpiece :)

This looks amazing! Can’t wait to play this. Looks like I need to buy a PS4.

Hope it’s scary, unlike Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs. They shouldn’t have handed that over to Chinese Room, cause they ended up dropping the ball. Good story and music, but no horror.

That looks awesome! I think they could’ve waited a bit longer to tease us for a game that comes out in 2015, but it’s good to know they’re cooking up something pretty damn unique and terrifying over there.

I actually loved both of the Amnesia games and, this one looks so awesome, I’m just dazzled by the awesome horror game line-up we’ve been getting.
