Guillermo Del Toro And Travis Beacham Writing ‘Pacific Rim 2′! No Green Light Yet….

Despite a soft box office take in the US, there was speculation earlier this summer that we might be getting a Pacific Rim sequel due to the film’s international success (it did quite well in China, among other territories). Money is money no matter where it comes from, so with a worldwide take of $400 Million – I suppose it’s a possibility.

In fact director Guillermo del Toro says he’s already writing Pacific Rim 2 with original scribe Travis Beacham. He tells Empire Magazine, “We are writing the sequel. Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active. The decision to green light or not, that’s definitely above my pay rate.

While that’s good news, pay particular attention to that comment about the green light. With a budget of around $200 million and global P&A expenses probably nearing half that, the original probably hasn’t made its money back yet (remember, that $400M figure is gross not net).

So if you really want Pacific Rim 2 – be sure to pick up the Blu-ray for Pac-Rim this week (it came out yesterday). Or buy it on VOD. They’re gonna need those ancillaries to push them over the top.

    Hoping it happens.

I really LOVED Pacific Rim, and I was kind of shocked by the lukewarm reception it received. Although, my only complaint about the movie is that awful love story between Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Hunnam. It felt so forced, because they had no chemistry together.

I actually thought they did! I was so disappointed that it failed at the US box office because it was made with so much craftmanship and care. I want my sequel but before that, I want Hellboy 3!!!!

I wanted to like it…I actually wanted to love it…but it just didn’t do it for me….I’m down for a sequel though.

I liked it, but then again, I saw it at a Real IMAX theater – which really enhanced my experience of giant Kaiju monsters and robot jaegers.
Of course it did suffer from poor dialog, acting and some chemistry issues – but the special effects were kick ass.
Just PLEASE – show a fight that is NOT in the rain, seriously.
