R.I.P. Lou Reed Passes Away At Age 71

It is being reported by Rolling Stone that guitarist and songwriter Lou Reed (Velvet Underground) has passed away at age 71. There is no official cause of death but Reed underwent a liver transplant in May.

Reed has been releasing music for nearly 50 years and is seen by many as a pioneer in the punk and rock and roll genres. He returned to the mainstream eye with the release of Lulu, which was recorded with Metallica.

Our thoughts go out to his family, his friends, and his fans. Rest in peace, Mr. Reed.

Man I LOVED his stuff. Such an influence on me (and the other bands that influenced me) as a musician. “White Light/White Heat” was 10x more intense than most modern metal – without being metal at all.

“Transformer” is a brilliant album. And without Velvet Underground there’d be no Sonic Youth and no Pavement.

I was introduced to his music sometime right around “Velvet Goldmine” came out, which was and still is one of my favourite movies. I can’t help but shiver at the first sounds of “Satellite Of Love”. R.I.P. Mr. Reed.

I wholeheartedly agree. It’s the scene where they ride on the carousel. My first time was with “This Magic Moment” in “Lost Highway” (the scene where Patricia Arquette exits the car in style and slo-mo).

His stuff (not the abomination Lulu) was not my cup of tea but I always hate seeing a music legend pass away. RIP Lou

Rest in peace you glorious bastard. Without him or the Velvet Underground, music as we know it would not exist.
