‘The Zone’ Starts Shooting In December, Is It Actually ‘The Purge 2’?!

Published

Update: Variety has confirmed that DeMonaco has firmed up his deal for The Purge 2 and that the film needs to start shooting before the end of the year.

I like how this one kind of almost went under the radar when in all likelihood it’ll be something of a big release next year. Earlier today Production Weekly tweeted a report about an upcoming project called The Zone.

It just so happens that The Zone is being produced by Jason Blum and Michael Bay (and Platinum Dunes) and will be distributed by Universal. Much like The Purge. In fact, that film’s writer/director James DeMonaco is also tackling those duties for this project. And it starts shooting in December here in Los Angeles.

Could this actually be The Purge 2? I’m thinking it is. We all know that a sequel is in development with DeMonaco attached to write and direct. The California Film Commission granted tax credits to The Purge 2 back in June, around the same time they granted tax credits to 30 or so other films, including the Entourage movie. If you’ve been following non-horror film news, you’ll know that Entourage has to start filming by January to receive those credits. I imagine the same goes for The Purge 2.

I am awaiting comment from Blumhouse and will update when they get back to me.

Sleepy Hollow movie

Paramount is heading to Sleepy Hollow with a brand new feature film take on the classic Headless Horseman tale, with Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) announced to direct the movie back in 2022. But is that project still happening, now two years later?

The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this afternoon that Paramount Pictures has renewed its first-look deal with Lindsey Anderson Beer, and one of the projects on the upcoming slate is the aforementioned Sleepy Hollow movie that was originally announced two years ago.

THR details, “Additional projects on the development slate include… Sleepy Hollow with Anderson Beer attached to write, direct, and produce alongside Todd Garner of Broken Road.”

You can learn more about the slate over on The Hollywood Reporter. It also includes a supernatural thriller titled Here Comes the Dark from the writers of Don’t Worry Darling.

The origin of all things Sleepy Hollow is of course Washington Irving’s story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” which was first published in 1819. Tim Burton adapted the tale for the big screen in 1999, that film starring Johnny Depp as main character Ichabod Crane.

More recently, the FOX series “Sleepy Hollow” was also based on Washington Irving’s tale of Crane and the Headless Horseman. The series lasted four seasons, cancelled in 2017.
